Hollywood really can’t get enough of reboots and remakes at the moment (we’re lookin’ at you, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Charmed, and Trading Spaces), which is apparently why yet another Dirty Dancing film is on its way. Starring Oscar-nominated actress Abigail Breslin as Baby and with newcomer Colt Prattes taking over Patrick Swayze’s iconic role, the first pics have just been released, and we can pretty much guarantee you’ll either LOVE ‘em or HATE ‘em.
Set to air on May 24, ABC’s version of the beloved movie also stars Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland, Will & Grace‘s Debra Messing, Star Trek’s Bruce Greenwood, the always sassy Katey Sagal, and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger. Yeah, it’s one heck of a cast!
Seemingly staying true to the tale of dance-filled romance, there are a few notable changes to the script (including an interracial crush for Baby’s big sis, Lisa), with ABC saying that their retelling will “dive deeper into the iconic characters, showcasing their progression and tackling social themes like race, women’s rights, and the socio-economic division in the country at that time.” So far, so good!
And the first images from the film? Well, you can see for yourself and decide whether you think this is going to be a total hit or vicious miss.
First and foremost, introducing the new Baby, definitely giving off young and innocent vibes…
No wonder she’s in awe of Johnny and Penny, who stir things up as soon as the story begins. And while they look lovely on the main dance floor…
Look at ’em go when the party really gets started…
Baby does her best to keep up, natch…
But things don’t go so smoothly…
And while we’re already cringing at Baby’s initial moves, as we know well, things start to get a whole lot smooooother…
However, trouble is always lurking…
Let’s just hope they indeed had the time of their lives with this remake, because they definitely have big (dancing) shoes to fill.
