Elle Marr's "Your Dark Secrets" Is The It Girl Of Summer Thriller Books

Your Dark Secrets by Elle Marr

My happy place is reading a good thriller book that leaves me guessing until the inevitable huge plot reveal. It's not that I never know something shocking will happen, but it's a matter of answering the looming "What?" that lingers throughout. Lucky for me, Elle Marr's Your Dark Secrets kept me on my toes while I read it. Seriously, the first chapter alone had me pacing back and forth in my bedroom.

Jana Foo Photography/Ellemarr.com

Being that it's her sixth thriller novel that hits shelves today, Elle Marr's discovered how to let her own curiosity set the tone for the stories she writes. "Each story, for me, has been very unique in how it has come about from how I've rooted out the origin of my characters, their insecurities, their hangups, etc." She loves comparing this to archaeology — as the author, she's digging around to discover the skeletons of her characters and the greater story overall.

Marr's career seems just as fast-paced and hectic as her exciting stories — her fifth book The Alone Time just came out in May. The author, who sometimes prioritizes deadlines over her own sleep, told me, "It's a struggle as a writer and being a mother. I have two small kids and so it's a constant game of 'What are my priorities?'" In spite of having to frequently ask herself this question, Elle Marr skillfully delivers another gripping book that readers will absolutely enjoy.

Because I'm not stingy, here's a full review of the book that doesn't spoil anything!

My Initial Thoughts About "Your Dark Secrets"

Jasmine Williams

We're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but that's honestly part of what makes me want to pick one up. The first thing I noticed is how the varying shades of deep pink contrast with indigo and I thought, "This feels like a slasher book that's set in different locations." I also took note of a woman's pair of eyes and lips which made me think that an important figure will be at the center of the story.

From the moment I started reading the first chapter, I discovered I was right about one of the main characters because Addison Stern commands attention. It's clear she takes her job seriously and will stop at nothing to protect a client who's in a mortifying situation. Determined to regain control of the situation, Addison does something that may make you have two reactions — "Who does she think she is?" or "Wow, she's gutsy and I love her!" It doesn't seem like there's an in-between feeling.

Admittedly, this tugged at annoying part of me that made me wonder if Addison was going to be a character I love to hate. Despite my initial thoughts, I decided there was only one way to tell — keep reading.

First Impressions Aren't Everything

Jasmine Williams

One of the most distinct messages in Your Dark Secrets is to understand first impressions aren't everything. We can see or meet someone for the first time, and think we have their entire life figured out. But Elle Marr does a great job showing that her characters are complex individuals whose traumas or careers call for a bit of ruthless behavior. And unfortunately for those of us who love to take things at face value, there's a catch 22 that comes with each character you encounter.

On one hand, Addison can be seen as a shrewd, cunning powerhouse, but she's also experienced a form of neglect and poverty that makes her terrified to go back to those places. The same thought process can be applied to Connor. He's not a black and white character that you can place a singular label on. He's also running from a part of his past while also trying to rebuild his present life courtesy of a hard-to-stomach betrayal.

The more Elle Marr weaves Addison and Connor's lives together, the more I was able to see that our definition of a protagonist can often be limited. It's almost like watching Batman as an adult and realizing how much Bruce Wayne's actions are fueled from the trauma of witnessing his parents' death at a young age.

These characters are flawed, but still have 'redeemable' qualities that make them the perfect suspects in a plot that's bigger than they could've anticipated.

My Final Verdict

Jasmine Williams

By the time I reached the last three chapters, I wanted to scream in frustration — but, it's not for the reason you think.

I kept trying to piece together any easter eggs I thought were noteworthy and still came up short. The people I thought had something to do with the wild goose chase Addison and Connor were on turned out to be victims. And the other people that could've had a murderous motive? Well, they were just pricks.

However, the responsible parties who orchestrated the events in Your Dark Secrets made me sputter and slam the book shut. After I caught my breath, I uneasily made peace with how easy it is to ignore tiny red flags because we love to give people the benefit of the doubt. It's the main reason I chose to read the book twice in a row.

I needed to understand how some people are able to fly under the radar while letting others take the fall for their terrible deeds. I also wanted to to confront my own tendency to believe that everyone has a bit of 'good' inside of them.

I'll say this — any book that makes me question my first impressions, relate to even just a portion of someone's trauma, and leaves me unable to speak at the end is one I'm going to recommend to anyone who'll listen.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5

After the ABC News presidential debate, Taylor Swift formally endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on Instagram. Swift has slowly, but surely, crept her way into more and more political involvement over the years, with her endorsements only getting bigger and bolder. Here’s what she had to say!

The beloved international pop star posted an image of herself and her adorable cat, Benjamin Button, to tell her audience about the importance of voter registration — and ultimately truth in an election. This call for truth follows images that circled the internet, exhibiting Taylor Swift fans — some real women, and some AI-generated — endorsing Donald Trump. One image features a shirt with a depiction of Swift with an Uncle Sam-esque look that reads, "Taylor Swift wants you to vote for Donald Trump!" The former President even shared these images on Truth Social, posting, "I accept!"

After addressing the Donald Trump-supporting AI-generated elephant in the room, she said, “The simplest way to combat misinformation is the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”

Kate Green/Getty Images

Swift went on to describe that Harris “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” She explained that she sees Harris as a “steady, gifted leader” who will ultimately help the country accomplish more through “calm and not chaos.”

The Grammy winner then talked about Vice Presidential candidate, Governor Tim Walz, noting that she was “heartened and impressed” by his selection for the ticket. She continued by praising how Walz “has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

Swift closed out her statement, saying that she’s done her research and made a choice, and encouraging her audience to do the same. She highlighted the fact that first-time voters need to remember to register soon, and that she finds “it’s actually much easier to vote early.” With a callout to go to her link in bio for more voter resources, she signed her post in the only way she could: “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.”

The sign-off is in reference to a comment made by Republican Vice Presidential Candidate, Senator JD Vance. Vance previously alleged that the country was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

One thing we know about Miss Taylor Swift? You don’t wanna mess with her or her three cats.

Netflix

This massive political move comes five years after Swift’s Netflix documentary, Miss Americana — a film that followed her life post-Reputation and pre-Lover, but essentially acted as a “coming out” documentary for being a Democrat. In the documentary, she stressed to her family and team that she didn’t want to sit idly by while people’s rights are on the line. She said, “If you can just shift the power in your direction by being bold enough, then it won’t be like this forever.”

www.instagram.com

Since then, she's endorsed Democratic State Senate hopeful, Phil Bredesen, and House of Representatives candidate, Jim Cooper, in the 2018 Tennessee elections. In her endorsement post, Swift explained that Bredesen's opponent, Marsha Blackburn, was a big concern for her. She wrote, "Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape." Swift continued, "She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values."

And while she noted her own political beliefs, Swift was sure to also remind folks that registering to vote is very important, no matter what!

www.instagram.com

Though her efforts in Tennessee didn't turn out the way Swift wished, that didn't stop her from remaining politically involved. In the 2020 election, Swift took this a step further to endorse Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on Twitter and in V Magazine. In the article, Swift expressed concern for a woman's right to choose, the LGBTQIA+ community, people of color, global and health. This all came on the heels of the 2020 COVID pandemic and sweeping Black Lives Matter movement. She said, “I will proudly vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election. Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.”

And now her efforts continue for the 2024 general election. Swift's Instagram post has 8 million likes — and counting! — so far. Plus, since this post, a study conducted found that Swift gained over 165,000 followers on the platform. While not every single one of these Instagram users may be eligible U.S. voters, it does show the incredible influence Taylor Swift is able to wield at any given moment.

Ultimately, this Taylor Swift fan is just happy to see her able to express her opinions more freely, time after time.

Read Taylor Swift's Full Statement Here:

www.instagram.com

"Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.

Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.

I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.

I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.

With love and hope,

Taylor Swift

My deep, unshakeable love for teen dramas makes total sense when I remember that I grew up on all the classic old school drama TV shows. At any given moment, my family would be watching a Western, a compelling family story, or a sweeping romance. While a lot of the storytelling (and character choices) have become outdated, dramas from the 70s, 80s, and 90s informed all the new TV shows we can't stop watching today. And I was thrilled when I realized how many classics are available to watch on Prime Video! Here are 5 shows to stream for your weekend watch.

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman

CBS

As someone who's lived on the East coast my entire life, my brain categorizes any story set out West the same way it does fantasy. And this drama TV show, about a doctor who moves to Colorado Springs from Boston in the 1800s, is one of my favorite series ever. Jane Seymour stars as Dr. Michaela Quinn, who, after an accident, ends up adopting three children as well as a new medical practice in Colorado. The show ran from 1993-1998 and scored 19 Emmy nominations and 4 Emmy wins.

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman stars Jane Seymour, Joe Lando, Chad Allen, Shawn Toovey, Orson Bean, Jessica Bowman, and Erika Flores.

The Waltons

CBS

Based on the real-life Hamner family (with Earl Hamner Jr. serving as the narrator), this series follows the Walton family on Walton's Mountain as the world moves through The Great Depression and World War 2. Just like Dr. Quinn, The Waltons scored some Emmys (37 nominations and 13 wins) and covered all kinds of issues from war and violence to race and sexuality.
One funny thing I like to look out for is, as the seasons move along (and the real-world behind the scenes enters the 80s), the hairstyles get more and more voluminous.
The Waltons stars Richard Thomas, Ralph Waite, Michael Learned, Jon Walmsley, Mary Beth McDonough, Judy Norton, Kami Cotler, Eric Scott, and Ellen Corby.

Moesha

UPN

Moesha might be classified as a sitcom, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to include it! Especially since it tackles topics like body image, teen pregnancy, racism, sexism, and inappropriate age-gap relationships (like when Moesha's teacher kisses her?! I'll never get over that). Plus, the cherry on top is that Brandy IS Moesha. The show was got 17 Image Awards nominations, and 3 wins, plus 3 Kids Choice Awards nominations and 3 Teen Choice Awards nominations.

Moesha stars Brandy Norwood, William Allen Young, Countess Vaughn, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lamont Bentley, Shar Jackson, and Marcus T. Paulk.

Little House on the Prairie

NBC

Inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder's novels, this old school drama TV show ran for 9 seasons and follows the Ingalls family as they make a home for themselves in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. At the time, this classic series won 4 Emmys, and got 16 nominations, and was later criticized for being racially insensitive towards Native Americans.

In the era of TikTok, Gen Z is revisiting the series' most terrifying episodes and cracking up at how often Michael Landon (who served as star, executive producer, writer, and director) wrote shirtless scenes for his character.

Little House on the Prairie stars Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, and Lindsay & Sydney Greenbush.

7th Heaven

The WB/The CW

7th Heaven serves as both a family drama and a teen drama because, man do these kids go through it. The Camden family, led by pastor Eric and his wife Annie, help their community through all kinds of issues: gun violence, drug abuse, gangs, and more. The show definitely evolves into a caricature of the 90s if you ask me, but the actors who play the five children (later seven, after Annie has twins) are so lovable. Plus, this show launched Jessica Biel into Hollywood so we're more than thankful for that :).

7th Heaven stars Stephen Collins, Catherine Hicks, Barry Watson, David Gallagher, Jessica Biel, Beverley Mitchell, and Mackenzie Rosman.

It Ends With Us is no stranger to controversy. The book, and its movie adaptation, follows the story of Lily Bloom (played by Blake Lively in the film), who finds herself in a domestic violence relationship when she falls in love with Ryle Kincaid (actor & director Justin Baldoni).

Over the last year, the project has created online conversations around everything from Lily's outfits to Brandon Sklenar's (who plays Atlas Corrigan) red carpet anxiety. And the latest chapter in the drama appears to be between Baldoni and Lively.

Internet users are speculating that there's been a creative control struggle between Baldoni and Lively throughout the process, especially now that rumors are swirling Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds hope It Ends With Us scores Lively an Oscar nomination. The actress also served as producer and was involved in everything from the script to the inclusion of Taylor Swift's "My Tears Ricochet."

What happened between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively?

@deadline#JennySlate on working with #JustinBaldoni, who served as both scene partner and director to the actress in #ItEndsWithUsMovie♬ original sound - Deadline

Fans first noticed something seemed off when it was revealed Blake Lively, Brandon Skelnar, Jenny Slate, and Colleen Hoover don't follow Justin Baldoni on Instagram (even though he follows them). Baldoni didn't take photos with the cast at the New York City premiere, and he also hasn't done any of the viral press with his costars. Plus, the fact that Baldoni's onscreen sister Jenny Slate dodged a question about him only makes this whole situation more odd.

When an Instagram user called Lively's behavior "disappointing," her brother-in-law Bart Johnson replied (via People), "I’m really sorry you feel that way. I’m sure you have a huge heart and want the best. I can promise you the truth has not come out yet. Blake worked harder on this film than anything I’ve seen her do my entire life. Because it meant so much to her."

"The message is in the book. And in the movie. Not in short clips / interviews," he continues. "She is the reason the message / this movie/ is getting out. Were mistakes made? Yes. I make mistakes in life. But they aren’t under a microscope. Anyway, I respect your views. I got nothing but love for you."

The Hollywood Reporter reveals the cast and crew might have wrapped with two different cuts of the movie, citing creative differences between Baldoni and Lively, and sources told Page Six the studio went with Lively's "more feminine cut." (THR reports Lively commissioned Shane Reid, a Deadpool & Wolverine editor, for It Ends With Us, although the final project is credited to editors Oona Flaherty and Robb Sullivan.)

But the supposed feud might go deeper. A set source just revealed to People that not only have Blake and Justin been at odds, but apparently "the principal cast and [author] Colleen Hoover will have nothing to do with him."

"All is not what it seems," the source continues. "There is much more to this story."

Sources told The Daily Mail Baldoni was "chauvinistic" and "borderline abusive" during the filming process.

“The tension was so obvious,” an It Ends With Us on-set source told Page Six. “Once she was done with the scene she was really impatient, said, ‘Am I done? Can I go?,’ and as soon as they said ‘yes,’ there was like a Blake-size hole in the wall...She was so outta there.”

There are rumors Justin Baldoni made Blake Lively feel uncomfortable in her postpartum body (she gave birth to fourth child Olin in February of 2023; the movie began filming in May of 2023), and that he asked an on-set trainer how much she weighed before filming a scene where he has to pick her up. Baldoni reportedly has back problems and wanted to make sure he didn't injure himself. Lively also reportedly felt like the actor & director lingered too long during a kissing scene.

But throughout the whole press cycle, Justin Baldoni has been the only member of the cast raising awareness for domestic violence, and praising the strength of DV survivors.

During the premiere for the film, Baldoni told ET, "This is a night for all the women who we made this movie for...If a Lily Bloom in real life can sit in this theater and maybe make a different choice for herself than was made for her, maybe she sees herself on that screen and chooses something different for herself, that's why I made the movie."

Will Justin Baldoni direct It Starts With Us?

In addition to this video from set, where Lively and Baldoni look like they're in a visionary standoff, Baldoni just revealed he probably won't step back into the role of director if 2022's It Starts With Us is also adapted.

"I think that there are better people for that one," he tells Entertainment Tonight at the August 6 NYC premiere. "I think Blake Lively's ready to direct, that's what I think."

Blake Lively/Instagram

Amid the internet frenzy, people are coming to Baldoni's defense, praising his vulnerable Man Enough podcast. AnIt Ends With Us extra even recounted how kind and attentive he was on set.

And while Lively has always been praised as an "unproblematic queen," fans of the book wish official press for the movie centered on domestic violence awareness as much as Baldoni's one-on-one interviews do. Instead, she's filmed funny baking videos, promoted her Betty Buzz and Blake Brown brands, and encouraged viewers to "wear your florals" to see the movie.

She finally touched on the themes of the movie in an August 13 Instagram story, providing a link to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, while The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Justin Baldoni has hired PR crisis manager Melissa Nathan amid the It Ends With Us drama. Nathan represented Johnny Depp during the 2022 Amber Heard trial.

On September 10, a source told People that Blake Lively felt "surprised," "vulnerable and upset" about all the It Ends With Us drama. "During the promotion of the movie, not one day went by when she was not in the news in an unfavorable light. She's just not used to this kind of drama."

This post has been updated.

I'm glad we live in a time where we don't have to wait until October to watch all of the best scary movies...but I'd be lying if I said I haven't purposely been saving scary titles for spooky season so I can savor that eery — and somewhat cozy — familiar frightening feeling this year. I've been a horror movie junky my whole life, so I have to save some of my favorites for the best time of the year: Halloween.

So while I stock up on all the cute and spooky Halloween decorations to prep for the best holiday, let me clue you in to some of my all time favorite, absolute best scary movies. From '80s slashers to thought-provoking horrors, these 18 films are at the top of my must-watch list!

20th Century Studios

1. Alien

Alien is the reason why I'm obsessed with science fiction horror films. It reels you in with a harmless expedition that quickly turns sinister when one of the crew members is implanted with an alien embryo. Growing at an alarming rate, the alien wrecks havoc on the crew one by one until only Ripley is left to face off with it.

New Line Cinema

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street

It took me forever to fall asleep after watching this as a kid because I was convinced Freddy Kreuger was coming to get me in my dreams. Due to one man's sadistic life and penchant for revenge, A Nightmare on Elm Street follows Nancy's discovery of him — as well as the horrible secret her parents have been keeping.

Dimension Films

3. From Dusk Till Dawn

This isn't your typical vampire movie because it makes you begin rooting for the 'bad guy' by the time the vampires come out to feast. Unfortunately, a father and his two kids get caught in the cross hairs of a successful robbery celebration gone wrong.

Hulu

4. Hellraiser

The original Hellraiser scared me to no end, but I couldn't resist watching the newer version! Following the main theme of the original franchise, this updated film begins with a mysterious puzzle box landing in the hands of those whose pleasures still aren't fulfilled on earth.

When recovering addict Riley McKendry comes across it, she and those around her begin experiencing horrifying events they'll never recover from.

Dimension Films

5. Scream

I have a fond memory of going to the movie theater to watch Scream with my dad and sister, so I'll always watch it every Halloween.

It's all about an unknown 'Ghostface' killer who begins terrorizing high school students in a small community. While the attacks seem random, a group of friends begin to connect the dots to realize Sydney Prescott could be the next victim. The problem is that the killer is much closer than she realizes and she'll have to dig deep inside herself to survive his psychotic ways.

Columbia Pictures

6. Child's Play

If you didn't want a Good Guy doll just so you could pretend it was Chucky, did you truly live? I'm kidding!
Child's Play is so iconic because it features our favorite smart aleck serial killer in doll form. Chucky may have been under 3 feet tall, but you could always count on him to have the courage to carry out his murderous tendencies while insulting his victims.

Warner Bros. Entertainment

7. It

Bill Skarsgaard immersed him into his role as Pennywise in It, and it's quickly become one of my favorite movies to watch. It's to the point where my three year old knows about his deadlights...which may not win me any Mother of the Year points. To be fair, I watched the original TV series as a kid, so I'm just following tradition!

For anyone who hasn't seen It before, it's about a group of outcast kids who realize they're seeing different versions of something horrifying. The more they talk about their experiences, the more it becomes clear there's one entity behind it. When they resolve to fight back against Pennywise the Dancing Clown, his murderous ways increase in frequency and threaten to break the friends' bond.

Universal Pictures

8. Candyman

This newer adaptation of Candyman takes place years after the first film and meets back up with the young baby — Anthony — Candyman once kidnapped. It seems he had a purpose for the infant because the adult Anthony's curiosity eventually turns him into a new variant of the vengeful spirit.

New World Pictures

9. Children of the Corn

Imagine a town full of kids and teens who decide to kill adults based on the teachings of one sick twisted person. Now picture a cornfield that stretches for miles in all directions and you have Children of the Corn. It's the #1 reason why I still can't stand corn fields!

Dimension Films

10. The Faculty

When a group of students realize something's wrong with the faculty at their school, they band together to try to survive a horrific alien takeover. However, the source of the threat is much closer than they can imagine...and it may just be their undoing.

MGM

11. Pumpkinhead

Fans of creature feature films will enjoy watching a father regret his decision to seek revenge after his son is accidentally killed. Instead of listening to the advice of those who know better, Ed Harley seeks out a witch who can conjure an evil demon, and he binds his soul to Pumpkinhead — leaving all hell to break loose.

Universal Pictures

12. I Know What You Did Last Summer

I Know What You Did Last Summer should serve as a cautionary tale to never run someone over and dump their body in a lake because they may not forget what you did. In fact, they just may wait an entire year so they can begin stalking you and your friends before going in for the kill. Oh, and you also just shouldn't run someone over to begin with. Duh.

20th Century Studios

13. Wrong Turn

There's a reason this movie is called Wrong Turn. After taking a detour that leads to a stranger colliding with a group of friends, they try to figure out their next course of action — only to they discover they're being hunted in a grisly manner. It'll take their survival skills and a ton of luck for them to survive the twisted ways of the people looking for them.

Warner Bros. Pictures

14. The Conjuring

The scariest thing anyone can encounter is an evil presence in their home that feeds off their family's energy and taunts them at every turn. And what's even worse? Watching your mom suffer from the strong possession of this entity, making you feel like you're living in a walking nightmare. Can the Warren family rid this home of possession once and for all?

Warner Bros. Pictures

15. Annabelle: Creation

The ever-so creepy doll from The Conjuring has a backstory — and it's not like Chucky's tale in Child's Play at all. Instead of twisted man who transferred his soul into a doll, a demonic entity entered the doll of a couple mourning the death of their daughter. It gained their trust and attacked the wife in such an awful manner that they swore to keep it locked up. However, demons know how to manipulate others which is what happens when the couple opens up their homes to a group of young orphans.
P.S. My fiancé and I didn't finish watching this because it was too scary. He usually rolls his eyes at most scary movies, but the part he watched without me spooked him to the point he immediately turned the movie off. That says a lot to me!

FilmDistrict

16. Insidious

I didn't know a movie could make astral projection terrifying until I watched Insidious with my sister. Viewers are introduced to a family who has three young children. Things seem to be going well when they move into a new home, but their oldest son Dalton unexplainably falls into a deep coma that doctors are stumped by.
When it's revealed that Dalton isn't sick and is trapped, his dad will have to remember what happened to him when he was a young boy so he can travel into The Further.

Constantin Film

17. Resident Evil

Resident Evil made everyone want to be a bada-- who willingly took on zombified humans, animals, and other ghoulish creatures because of Mila Jocovich's brilliant portrayal as Alice. Though she was an Umbrella employee, she quickly loses faith in her employer when she realizes the horrors it was responsible for creating.

Universal Pictures

18. Us

I highly recommend that you don't pass by a mirror directly after watching this because your own reflection may scare you. This story follows a family who visits the matriarch's family home after her mom has passed and ends with the realization that she's not who she says she is.
Though not everyone in her family connects the dots, her son notices his mom reverting back to her former primal state the more her double closes in on her.
