12 Ways to Build the Most Personalized Wedding Registry Ever

If you’re about a quarter of the way through your wedding planning process, now’s about the time you realize “oh yeah, I need to create a registry.” The registry process can be a stressful one, and even a little bit awkward. You want to give your friends the freedom to find gifts that are truly from them to you, but also want to make sure you don’t end up with too many of the same thing. And, thanks to honeymoon-centered and charitable registries, there are a whole bunch of non-toaster-oven options that are super appealing for modern couples who already have most of their essentials.

I know I personally set up THREE different registries because my husband and I were looking for kitchen essentials, outdoor gear and a fund for our future home. It was frustrating to have three different places to send people and three completely different registry experiences. One online registry has wisened up to the fact that modern couples like to pick and choose a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Meet Zola, a brand new (and free!) registry website that lets you have your {wedding) cake and fund it, too ;)

is a new, modern type of registry. It’s beautiful, easy to use and completely customizable, giving you and your soon-to-be spouse tons of options all in one place (for free!). Looking to register for an unusual experience in your favorite city? Check. Need to upgrade the basics in your kitchen? Yes, please. Want to design a straight up cash fund for your honeymoon, home renovation or favorite charity? Done, done and done. Seriously. And for a limited time, Zola is offering $25 to spend for all of our engaged friends who set up their wedding registry on Zola!

.

Customize the Look and Feel of Your Registry

First things first: You need to make your registry page actually look like your registry page. Add in photos, choose colors and leave notes for your friends and family. You can even highlight custom collections created by you and your fiancé to help guide the gifting process.

Make Sure You’ve Got the Registry Basics Down Pat

Ready to start adding things to your list? Make sure the essentials are covered. If you’re still working your stir fry magic on a set of totally scratched used-to-be-nonstick-pans, now is the time to replace them! Browse different collections based on your interests, personal style and needs to get inspired.

3. Add in Gifts from ALL Your Favorite Registry Shops: Zola makes it super easy to add gifts from other websites to your registry. One option is to drag the “Add to Zola” button to your bookmarks bar (like the “Pin It” button for Pinterest) so that whenever you come across something you like, you can add it to your reg. You can also simply paste a link into Zola’s “Add from Another Site” portal and all the necessary info will be automatically pulled in. Once you’ve added an item from another store, you’ll have the option to receive the cash value of that gift and purchase it yourself, or to direct your guests to that website to buy the gift for you. Easy breezy!

Create a

: Now that you’ve got the basics covered, it’s time to turn to the fun stuff. If you’re heading off on a romantic adventure right after your wedding, invite your friends and family to gift you the funds to do the craziest and most exciting activities you can! You can create a general fund or specify things like Scuba Diving for Two, Breakfast in Bed or anything else you can dream up.

Encourage Friends and Family to Give You Experiences

On the same note, you can also register for experiences well beyond your honeymoon. Perhaps there’s a restaurant in your city you’ve always been wanting to splurge on? Or maybe you love coffee so much that a monthly coffee subscription sounds like a dream? Stack those experiences right up alongside your cookware and your honeymoon. So easy! (photo credit: Ira Lippke + Caroline Tran)

6. Invite Friends to Help With the Wedding: Weddings are expensive — that’s no secret. And, surprising as it may be, your friends and family actually want to help you. Make the gift of a little extra financial support easy by using Zola to register for things like wedding flowers, your wedding cake or a wedding band. You’ll be surprised and touched to see how many of your friends and family members want to make your day the best it can be.

Build Your Dream Home (or Dream Kitchen)

Have all the essentials for your home but don’t exactly have an official home yet? Use the cash fund option to create a bunch of “gifts” centered around building or renovating your home.

8. Add in a Charitable Gifting Option: Do-gooders can get down on this registry too! If you’re fortunate enough to be able to skip out on the wedding gift thing, give your guests the option to donate to a charity in your name. It’s a great way to give back to a community or cause, and will add an extra warm and fuzzy feeling to your wedding day.

9. Let Your Friends Go in on One Big Gift: This is one of my personal favorite offerings on Zola. You can register for crazy expensive experiences and things like that Eames chair you’ve had your eye on AND let multiple friends combine their efforts to make that crazy thing a reality.

Manage Your Registry from Your

: Okay, you’ve got all your registry ducks in a row. But what about when you think of something genius and you’re not at your computer? Or when your mother-in-law-to-be decides to gift you a swoon-worthy turquoise KitchenAid Stand Mixer out of the blue, way before your wedding? (True story!) Thanks to the Zola app, you can manage your entire registry from the palm of your hand. You can even check out tweets and Instagram posts with your wedding hashtag right in the app.

11. Track Your Gifts for Thank You’s: It’s all well and good that you’re able to register for so many different gifts, experiences and funds, but how can you possibly keep track of everything you receive? Zola’s got a gift tracker for that, obvs!

Get Your Gifts When You Want Them

Want to avoid the whole “receiving tons of gifts at your office while you’re on your honeymoon” thing? Yep, that’s a real thing. I can personally attest to the fact that this has happened multiple times at Brit HQ. While it’s hilarious at first, it can be kind of a drag for your office manager and coworkers. Zola‘s Send It Later feature lets you decide exactly when and where you want your gifts.

In our Take 5 series, sponsored by Verizon, we ask women in business about unexpected challenges, their inspirations, recent wins, and how the free Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program has helped propel their business forward. Here, we meet Therise Edwards, founder/CEO of Teshley Solutions, an education consultancy firm that helps students and families navigate the complexities of the education system K through 12.

What is an unexpected business challenge that you faced and how did you overcome it?

I wouldn't call myself a FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) expert, but I ended up having to know a lot more about it than I ever anticipated. FAFSA is what administers Pell Grants, which is what a lot of colleges base their financial aid on. I knew about the application changes, and some were excellent, but they made a series of critical errors and a lot of parents were scrambling. It was not my intent to have this as my area of focus; it just became a necessity.

What's a recent small win for your business?

Recent small wins are my collaborations. I formed partnerships with one organization that focuses on students with special needs. I hosted a webinar with the executive director of that organization. I formed a partnership with members from an insurance company on planning and paying for college. That was my first corporate sponsorship. And I've got a series of events coming out because others actually reached out to me. One of them I met through another networking platform, but I got to that platform from one of the sessions that I did with Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program.

How did you start to collaborate with external partners?

Just changing my strategies and my approach, and just being more secure and more emphatic in making connections. It ends up being this continual cycle.

Is there a woman in business that you admire or that you look up to?

I have two. Leontyne Anglin, who runs a nonprofit called Beyond Expectations. She works with a small pool of students, but she just gives them enormous exposure and opportunity. She's brilliant with collaborating with individuals and businesses and really bringing the students what they need. And then the other on a bigger scale is Cate Luzio, founder and CEO of Luminary, who taught her Business Plan Bootcamp through the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program. She is just a dynamo. She is just so supportive of women entrepreneurs. She's awesome.

How did the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program help propel your business forward?

All of the collaborations and partnerships with the exception of one all came from joining the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program. I’ve taken all of the free classes and the one on projections and pricing, something every entrepreneur struggles with, was very helpful. There have been so many of them. Sometimes you're completely ignorant in a category so you take the class and it's like, okay, that's good to have. But then sometimes you sign up for it and it's like, oh, yeah, I did know 90 percent of that, but this other 10 percent is going to be very, very helpful.

In our Take 5 series, sponsored by Verizon, we ask women in business about unexpected challenges, their inspirations, recent wins, and how the free Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program has helped propel their business forward. Here, we meet Rita Suzanne, a marketing strategist for health and wellness businesses who learned to network, connect with other entrepreneurs, and build her business online and IRL.

What's an unexpected business challenge that you've had to face and how did you overcome it?

The hardest thing for me was my sister passed away and I ended up taking custody of my nieces. I ended up being a single mom of four kids. This is the thing that transitioned my whole entire life. I stopped doing web design and started my podcast Mom Owned and Operated. I wanted to reconnect with other moms and figure out how they were able to run their businesses and raise a family and take care of themselves because I wasn't able to do all three at the same time. Through that journey, I realized that I really needed to connect with other people and how important it was for my business. It helped me to create that community that I was yearning for that I didn't realize that I needed.

What's a recent small win for your business?

For me, the win was just pivoting back to something that I actually wanted to do. Also, I’ve started to say no to things that I no longer want to do.

Who is a woman in business that you look up to and why?

I have always admired and looked up to Amy Porterfield [author of Two Weeks Notice]. I listened to her all the time when I was starting out. I think that she's amazing and I love her stuff. She just seems like a very genuine person.

Is there a resource that has made an impact on you as an entrepreneur?

I listen to a lot of audio books. One of my favorites that has been huge for me is You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero. I was told when I first started my business, by a friend who was a business coach, that I have a mindset problem. Ten years ago, I had no idea even what “mindset” was. Sincero’s book helped me to see what she meant by “mindset” and helped me adjust that mindset and fix some of the things that I didn't realize were broken.

How has the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program helped propel your business forward?

There are a lot of things that I have loved about it. There are local networking and training opportunities, and that has been great, and the online training is very valuable. It's a great resource. I find that marketing needs a three-tiered approach, meaning you need to network it locally, socially, and then also have a very comprehensive online approach to your marketing. One of the Verizon Small Business trainings that I took was all about taking advantage of your local resources. I found that to be extremely valuable because often people think they need to just focus on social media. I don't think that people focus enough on their local community.

Thanks to Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer (as well as all the pros behind the camera), the best TV scene of 2023 came out when The Summer I Turned Prettygave us Steven and Taylor (played by Sean and Rain, respectively) dancing to Frank Ocean's cover of "Moon River." I absolutely lost my mind! This series is one of the best teen dramas around, and good news for fans of all things Cousins Beach: we're getting The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3! The new installment is coming in 2025 and stars Gavin Casalegno, Chris Briney, and Lola Tung as Jeremiah, Conrad, and Belly.

Here's everything we know about the new TV show — including a look at our convo with lead actress Lola Tung!

What did Gavin Casalegno say about The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3?

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah) and Lola Tung (Belly)

That's a very valid question, and it's one a lot of internet users are asking after Gavin, Lola, and Chris appeared at the Teen Vogue Summit on November 23, 2024. When asked about his favorite moments between Belly and Jeremiah, Gavin highlighted the “magical, fun” moments he loves to share with Lola.

“The story is very dramatized and something that's so beautiful is getting to be in the car with each other and be able to sing songs together and enjoy each other's presence,” he says. “That's something I personally enjoy. There's something sweet about those moments that build the relationship and the kind of foundation for those relationships.”

While the sentiment is very sweet, the internet is already consumed by Chris and Lola's reactions, which range from confused to surprised. "Why they looking at him like that 😭," one user commented while another says, "Their facial expressions are killing me." A third even took it a step further by joking, "Me when i’m tryna reach my word count." Listen, avoiding spoilers is a tough game!

The Summer I Turned Pretty Takes Chapel Hill

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Christopher Briney (Conrad)

The week of July 8, The Summer I Turned Pretty filmed on UNC-Chapel Hill's campus (which is where both Jenny Han and I went to school!) and fans were more than excited to see Christopher Briney around campus.

"They could never make me hate you Connie baby," one TikTok user commented on photos of Chris on Franklin Street, while another agrees, "If Conrad has no fans I'm dead."

Based on his new costume, and his hair being blonder than before, Conrad is looking a little older, wiser, and more mature — and as a Belly x Conrad shipper, I think it'll just make him look even better standing beside Lola Tung ;).

Another leak from set featuring Lola Tung in a yellow sundress and Christopher Briney in a polo shirt and slacks has fans in a tizzy! "The summer I turned pretty season 3 Belly and Conrad 😍," says the video's caption (and heart eyes are exactly how I feel about Conrad Fisher). One comment calls Belly and Conrad "soul mates" and I totally agree!

When will The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 come out?

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Jackie Chung (Laurel) and Sean Kaufman (Steven)

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 release date is coming in summer 2025. We were hoping to see The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 return in 2024, but thanks to a new post from the official TSITP account, we know the show will drop summer 2025. Okay, TBH that's a total bummer (just because we can't wait to watch!!), but, as the books say, It's Not Summer Without You (er, Belly and her friends).

Lola Tung starred as Euridyce in Hadestown on Broadway until March 17, 2024. During our interviews during the official press day — which you can watch on TikTok — she told me how excited she was to return to Belly's arc this season, and that she was just as excited to return to Cousins Beach as we are! "I'm just very excited to be back with everyone and to be able to step back into Belly's shoes, I'm super excited," she says.

Who's going to be in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 cast?

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah), Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad), Sean Kaufman (Steven) in The Summer I Turned Pretty

Considering the third book, We'll Always Have Summer, revolves around Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 castwill include Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno. We're also hoping to see Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, Jackie Chung, and Rachel Blanchard again!

After a variety of cast members were spotted around Wilmington, North Carolina, fans were hoping to see Christopher Briney — and it looks like he has finally arrived! "CONRAD FISHERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR IS HOMEEEEEEEEEEE," one X user says along with an image of Christopher Briney.

Your First Look At The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3

Prime Video

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 first look

I GASPED when I saw this first look at all the characters in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3. Prime Video did live Summer Watch Parties with the cast (and some exclusive commentary on their favorite episodes), and the sign up page featured Belly, Conrad, and the rest of the gang!

We see Lola Tung, Rain Spencer, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, and Sean Kaufman hanging out at the Cousins Beach house, and right off the bat things are looking brand new. Both Stephen and Taylor have grown out their hair, while Conrad's looking a little more blond than last season. But, thankfully, the characters still have their bohemian, Americana style which I'd consider a hallmark of the series! I can't wait to see them back in action.

Where can I watch The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3?

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Streaming

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will be available to stream on Prime Video, which is where you can watch season 1 and 2 right now!

Who does Conrad end up with in The Summer I Turned Pretty series?

Prime Video

Lola Tung (Belly) and Christopher Briney (Conrad)

While we don't know who Conrad will end up with in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, there is one theory that suggests his reunion with Belly will be better than ever. Lola Tung, Rain Spencer, Gavin Casalegno, and other cast members have been spotted around Wilmington — all except Chris Briney.@julevere wonders if they're filming in chronological order for one specific reason.

"You don't see Conrad for ages in book 3," she says. "What if Jenny [Han] is doing that on purpose so the actual moment in the show where Conrad and Belly see each other for the first time, [in a way] that's going to be the first legitimate time those two actors as...Belly and Conrad will see each other."

Waiting as long as possible for Lola Tung and Chris Briney to see each other means that Belly and Conrad's reunion will be more intense, and bring up all the old emotions (and infinity necklaces) that came up during season 2. If there's one thing this show has taught me, it's that you can only run from your feelings for so long and as a member of #TeamConrad, I'm hoping any reunion between the two brings them together for potential future seasons.

How old are the characters?

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Lola Tung (Belly) and Christopher Briney (Conrad)

In season one, Conrad is going to be a freshman in college, while the rest of the characters are still in high school. And at the beginning of season 2, Steven graduates from high school!

How many episodes are in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3?

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad), and Rain Spencer (Taylor)

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will have 10 episodes instead of eight like the previous two seasons!

Where is The Summer I Turned Pretty filmed?

Amazon Studios/Prime Video

The Summer I Turned Pretty key art

Even though The Summer I Turned Pretty is set on the coast of Massachusetts, the show is filming in Wilmington, North Carolina. This city is actually pretty well known in Hollywood — projects like Iron Man 3,One Tree Hill, and Outer Banks have filmed there! As someone who grew up going to Wilmington every single summer, I can promise you it's just as pretty as it looks (and the fair from season 2 is just as fun!!)

Is there a 4th Summer I Turned Pretty?

John Merrick/Prime Video

Christopher Briney (Conrad) and Lola Tung (Belly)

There is not a fourth The Summer I Turned Pretty book, but that doesn't mean the show has to end with season 3. They've already changed a few details from the books — namely, adding the Stephen/Taylor relationship reminds me of how Gossip Girl gave us Chuck and Blair, a fan-favorite ship that wasn't in those books either! I'm excited to see how the story (and the characters) continue to grow and evolve!

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Announcement

Prime Video

Lola Tung (Belly) and Rain Spencer (Taylor)

Prime Video announced the renewal on August 3, right before episode five of the second season hit the streaming service. Just like the season two trailer, Taylor Swift's "august" plays in the background and I'm in tears.

“We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Amazon and MGM Studios' head of television Vernon Sanders says in a press release. “Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to."
