Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Reunited to Rewatch ‘500 Days of Summer’

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s indie rom-com 500 Days of Summer was an instant classic when it debuted back in 2009. Now, 10 years after the film’s release, Entertainment Weekly has brought the two stars back together to rewatch and reflect on the movie for EW‘s first-ever Romantic Comedy special issue, which hits stands on Friday, February 8, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

A refresher, in case it’s been awhile since you last saw the film: Gordon-Levitt plays Tom Hansen, a greeting card writer who falls hopelessly in love with Summer Finn (Deschanel). Summer says she doesn’t believe in true love, though, and she eventually breaks up with Tom, leaving him to obsessively reflect on the 500 days they spent together to try to figure out what went wrong.

“This is a movie with zero dramatic irony. Zero,” Deschanel said while chatting with Gordon-Levitt about the film for EW. “It is 100 percent from Tom’s point of view, which we’ve talked about before, but it’s one thing people very much misunderstand about the movie. They think Summer’s a villain.”

She went on to point out that Summer is upfront about her feelings and opinions throughout the film, but because the story is told from Tom’s perspective, he’s made out to be a more sympathetic character.

Gordon-Levitt agreed, adding, “And a lot of it has to do with this voiceover, and I think that’s sort of part of the point, that the voiceover sounds authoritative, so you believe that it’s true. We all think that our perspective is authoritative, and Tom thinks that his perspective is authoritative. But life’s actually a lot more subjective than that.”

Deschanel further noted Tom’s habit of ignoring Summer: “It’s like, the moment she starts expressing herself — the moment she starts being like, ‘Okay, I can trust you, I’ll tell you about myself’ — the voiceover drowns her out.”

Entertainment Weekly‘s Romantic Comedy-themed issue also features a reunion of the stars from My Best Friend’s Wedding, including Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, and Rupert Everett. Check it out on newsstands this Friday, February 8.

Jessica Simpson may be back in the studio, but it's hard not to address the elephant in the room — er, Instagram. The star posted to her account on Wednesday, sharing that she's recording music again, calling it the "soundtrack of her soul." However, fans can't help but notice that she just doesn't look the same anymore. Check out the post below to see for yourself!

Everything to know about Jessica Simpson's latest Instagram post...

Instagram/jessicasimpson

14 years after she dropped Happy Christmas, Jessica Simpson's festive (and poppy) 2010 Christmas album, she's back in the studio to record new music! She teased a new project on Instagram back in November, writing, "This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve."

Now, she's giving us an inside-look at her studio time with a quick pic. The 2000s icon wrote, "I can't wait for y'all to hear the soundtrack of my soul 💿" And while it's obviously so exciting to think we're getting more music from our "nothin' but a t-shirt on" singing queen, there's so much more to this Instagram post than an announcement.

In the image, Jessica's wearing a silky, white two-piece set, a black blazer, fishnet stockings, high-heeled cowboy boots...and a new look? Without mincing words, Jessica looks less like herself than ever right now, and it's jarring to fans and just about anyone who's followed her over the past few decades.

One commenter wrote, "I don’t even recognize this person" with another defended, "she seems healthy, happy, and free so maybe yall should just applaud her for living authentically and keep it moving." As her fans approach this from both ends of the spectrum, the conversation only continues.

Although this could seem harsh or judgmental, it comes after Jessica shared her extreme weight loss with the world last year. She claims her 100-pound drop came from "willpower" and her sobriety, but it shocked many. So this trend of looking less and less like the Jessica we've known for about 30 years, is definitely surprising.

What do you think? Is this new look worrisome? Or should people actually "keep it moving"?

All I know is, I hope Jessica is safe, healthy, and sound. Her relationships, the tabloids, and the industry at large were not too kind to her over the years, so I'm just hoping she's okay!

Can you believe it's been over 20 years since the Lindsay Lohan and Tyra Banks classic, Life -Size premiered? This is enough to make some millennials shudder — especially those of us who still know every word to "Be A Star." In the era of Barbie and Bratz and Polly Pocket, this film definitely stuck with us since its debut.

And apparently, we're not the only ones! Tyra Banks recently dished about an idea she has for Life-Size 3, and it's triggering allllllll the nostalgia. Keep scrolling to see what she said — and to revisit what makes this franchise so great!

Is there a 'Life-Size 3?'

The Drew Barrymore Show/Ash Bean

Tyra Banks appeared on The Drew Barrymore Showyesterday during the Drews News segment, and she gave us an exciting update on the matter. They initially talked about Tyra's ice cream company, SMiZE & DREAM, before co-hosts Drew Barrymore and Ross Matthews asked if there's a chance fans will get to see Life-Size 3. The supermodel, actress, and entrepreneur laughed and said, "I feel like we should do one!" Of course this made the crowd burst into screams and rounds of applause.

Not only does she think they should make Life-Size 3, but Tyra already has an entire plot in mind! She said, "What if she [Lindsay Lohan as Casey Stuart], in some of kind of way, magically turned into a doll? And then my Eve character had to teach her how to be a doll. I feel like that could be very interesting."

Now, whether this dreamy plot becomes a reality, well that's a different story.

Is 'Life-Size 3' in the works?

Disney Pictures, Inc.

When Ross Matthews asked Tyra if she can actually bring Life-Size 3 to life, she didn't verbally say anything. Instead, she nodded which made the host exclaim, "Done! Thank you! Thank you, Tyra Banks." However, nothing's been officially announced...yet!

The first time Tyra hinted she's open to reprising her role as Eve was on Instagram in August. She expressed excitement about the Polly Pocket Airbnb in her captions, even tagging Lindsay Lohan. "Oh Polly Pocket, so small in size but BIG in memories and inspiration! 💛 I know so many girls who put you in their pocket and sometimes would find you in the back of the washing machine! 🫧 😂 I’m sure so many kids that loved my Life-Size movie thought of you while watching it…guess it’s time to visit this lil place and dream up another script. What say you, @lindsaylohan? xo Eve/TyTy," she wrote.

What is 'Life-Size' about?

Disney Pictures, Inc.

If you've never seen Life-Size, we're sad for you — just kidding! The film revolved around pre-teen Casey Stuart's (Lindsay Lohan) life after her mom died. She's become withdrawn from her former friends and somehow has made it to the football team at her school. At some point she stumbles across a book of spells and believes it's the thing she needs to bring her mom back. But, the spell goes awry and breathes life into one of her dolls, Eve (Tyra Banks).

A series of mishaps and heartbreak happen over the course of the film, but viewers get to see the profound effect Eve has on Casey before she returns back to her original form.

What happened in 'Life-Size 2?'

Disney Enterprises, Inc.

Life Size 2 had a difference scenario from the first film being that it doesn't exactly have anything to do with a pre-teen girl. The focus was on Grace (Francia Raisa), the CEO of Marathon Toys, and her inability to find joy in life. Fans of Life-Size know that the Eve doll was a product of Marathon Toys so it's not shocking that Eve herself senses that Grace needs her help.

Did Lindsay Lohan appear in 'Life-Size 2?'

Disney Pictures, Inc.

Not quite — she made a brief cameo without actually appearing in the movie. Life-Size 2 writer, Cameron Fay explained to TV Line, "Well, the first draft actually had Casey in the movie. That was something Tyra really wanted...But when we realized it wasn’t going to happen, the idea had to shift."

Wanting to find a way to include Lindsay's character some kind of way, Fay was inspired to make it seem that 'Casey' reached out to Grace in a way that felt authentic.

Where can I watch 'Life-Size' and 'Life-Size 2'?

Disney Pictures, Inc.

Unfortunately Life-Size isn't available to stream, nor has it recently appeared on cable TV. It's not quite clear why you can't watch Life-Size on platforms like Disney+, but this Reddit thread has the closest thing that answers on why it's so hard to watch.

Right now you can buy Life-Size 2: A Christmas Eve on Amazon Prime for $6.

Sydney Sweeney isn't afraid to clap back at body shamers, and she's pretty dang good at it. After pictures of Sydney in a bikini (in her own backyard) leaked, trolls started calling her horrible names and even questioning if she was pregnant — and Sydney had the best response.

The Eden and Euphoria actress posted a video of the hate comments before following up with a montage of her insane training regimen for her new Christy Martin biopic. The new movie follows the professional boxer, who also survived a murder attempt from her husband James Martin. I'm sweating just looking at the photos, and thanks to Syd's powerhouse response to those haters, I'm even more excited to see the movie than I was.

Here's everything you need to know about Sydney Sweeney's new Christy Martin movie.

What is the female boxer movie in 2024?

The Christy Martin movie hasn't received an official title yet, but we do know director David Michôd is known for films with shorter titles. Plus, after The Iron Claw, I'm wondering if the movie will take inspiration from some iconic boxing moves, like The Knockout.

In addition to Sydney Sweeney we'll see Ben Foster play Christy's husband James Martin, Merritt Weaver, Katy O’Brien, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad L. Coleman and Tony Cavalero.

Why are they making a movie about Christy Martin?

The new Christy Martin biopic is coming on the heels of A Complete Unknown (about Bob Dylan) and the forthcoming Bruce Springsteen's Deliver Me From Nowhere movie. The swell of biopics offers a whole new perspective on figures we only think we know, as well as inspiration by showing them overcome serious challenges.

“Well the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes so here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now,” Sydney Sweeney said in an Instagram post. “Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. more to come soon :)."

“I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old," Sydney also told Deadline. "I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.”

“I have a history of making movies about damaged men and I’d been wanting to make a film about a woman with a ferocious energy inside her," director David Michôd added. "When I came across the Christy Martin story two years ago I knew I’d found it. Her ferocity is intelligible and justifiable and audiences will crave it because of the circumstances she was forced to endure."

Was Christy Martin a good boxer?

Yes, Christy Martin was definitely a good boxer — she has 49 wins, 7 losses, and 3 draws, with 31 wins by knockout (no big deal). And in 2020, she also joined the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

The White Lotus season 3 is finally on its way, and it is, without a doubt, one of my most-anticipated 2025 TV shows. And we finally have an official release date! The new 8-episode season is coming even sooner than I could have hoped for, and there are plenty of sexy surprises in store.

In addition to the highly-anticipated return of Natasha Rothwell's Belinda, we're also going to meet characters played by Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Aimee Lou Wood. Talk about a stacked cast! I can't wait to watch the new episodesnext year but the first teaser will definitely hold us over.

Here's the first teaser trailer for the next season of the show — and The White Lotus season 3 release date!

'The White Lotus' season 3 trailer teases both pain and pleasure.

The White Lotus season 3 is coming February 16, 2025. This season we're headed to Thailand (after season 1 took us to Hawaii and season 2 took us to Italy), but amidst the stress-management meditation and incredible food, our cast is dealing with plenty of secrets, testing their limits throughout their week-long vacation.

"Everyone runs from pain towards pleasure," says the teaser trailer voiceover. "But they get there only to find more pain." The montage of late-night parties and unsettling shots like Parker Posey staring down the camera (and someone grilling a live crab until it catches on fire??) have me convinced The White Lotus season 3 is going to serve us an insane helping of both pain and pleasure.

We also get shots of Patrick Schwarzenegger lounging by the pool, Jason Isaacs taking a paranoid stroll through the jungle, and a coupled-up Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins celebrating the fact their vacation didn't kill them.

And creator Mike White says 'The White Lotus' season 3 is going to be bigger than ever.

We know that The White Lotus season 3 is going to be the biggest season yet, thanks to interviews with the creator and crew. “It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” creator Mike White said in an interview with EW. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing…I’m super excited about the content of the season.”

And he's not the only one. Natasha Rothwell told PEOPLE that "White Lotus is going to give you a run for your money.”

"It's an excellent season and people are going to be very pleased," she continues. There's always something special about a third season thanks to the combination of familiarity and brand-new adventures, and the seductive intrigue The White Lotus season 3 is already proving my point.

Season 3 is always my favorite season of a show — especially considering Gilmore Girls Season 3 Is Simply The Best, And No TV Show Has Matched It Since. Check out our weekend email send for more TV news.
