Did Amy Schumer Use Her Boyfriend for Red Carpet Damage Control?
When a Hollywood figure makes their red carpet debut with their bae, it usually indicates that the relationship is getting pretty darn serious and the pair want the world to know it. While this may be true of Amy Schumer, who, for the first time last night, walked the red carpet with her fella, this also looks to be a very obvious case of damage control from the comedian who’s currently involved in some rather icky controversy, first stemming from her cringe-worthy interview with Lena Dunham, followed by a quickly deleted (but screenshot-captured) racist tweet.
Though Amy and her boyfriend of nine months, Ben Hanisch, have offered fans the occasional glimpse into their relationship, he’s rarely seen with her at official industry events. That changed last night when he was by her side from the moment she showed up to GQ’s Men of the Year Awards ceremony at the Tate Modern in London, even making the huge step of joining her on the red carpet.
Amy was sure to share a pic via her Instagram account of herself on the red carpet with her own man of the year. But in an industry where coincidences are coordinated and curated, the move has some folks raising eyebrows over the timing. Was this appearance just a way to urge people to focus on something other than the nastiness she’s been involved in lately?
Whatever her motivation, some fans were still wooed by the appearance, responding with sentiments like, “You look amazeballs! Is that your boyfriend? he is fine!” and “Smoking hawt momma!!”
