Angelina Jolie Says She’s Still “Healing” After Her Split from Brad Pitt
Months after Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s shocking split in September of last year, it seems as if both stars have enough distance from their breakup to talk about it publicly. Pitt talked to GQ Style about his drinking and the hurt he caused during their split, and now Jolie is opening up in Vanity Fair about what caused her to walk away from the relationship and how she’s coping with her brood of six.
“Things got bad,” she told the magazine of the months leading up to their separation. “I didn’t want to use that word. … Things became ‘difficult.’”
When the interview turned to Pitt’s admissions in GQ Style and reports that their communication had improved, Jolie said that she and her ex have the same priorities in mind as they work to finalize their divorce. “We care for each other and care about our family, and we are both working towards the same goal,” she explained. She added that she doesn’t want her kids to worry about her, so she “cries in the shower” instead of in front of them. “They need to know that everything’s going to be all right, even when you’re not sure it is.”

After the divorce, Jolie lived in a rental with the kids. Recently, though, she purchased a home that once belonged to famed Hollywood director Cecil B. DeMille. Although the family has been there since early June, Jolie admitted that it’s not really decorated because “that was always Brad’s thing.”
As for their kids, Jolie said they have been “brave” at times when “they needed to be,” but did not go into great detail: “We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing. … They’re not healing from divorce. They’re healing from some … from life, from things in life.”
“They’re six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals,” she told VF. “I’m very proud of them.”
