Apple Rumor Alert! How Apple Wants to Take Over Your TV
Instead of using your Apple TV just for that nightly search to find something (anything!) to watch on Netflix, you might consider turning it on to watch your must-see network shows that are airing right this very moment. No, we’re not joking — Apple is actively looking into working with television providers to supply select TV networks through Apple TV. (Looks like the Apple Watch isn’t the only thing we’ll be waiting for this year :)
Apple TV’s network plans are pretty similar to Dish’s Sling TV, which was released last month. Sling TV offers 15 popular channels for $20 per month. Apple has been hoping to provide a set of channels for a fixed price as well, but they’ve been hitting some obstacles along the way. At first, Apple wanted to work with TV distributors, but, according to Business Insider, the distributors were hesitant to help out. Then, when Apple decided to work around them and go straight to TV providers, the big daddy of cable — Comcast — bought Time Warner Cable. Dun, dun, dunnn…
With all its competition, Apple TV users are going to have to wait a while before affordable Apple-provided cable becomes available, but we sure don’t mind waiting. Because let’s face it: Flipping through hundreds of channels is so 2014.
What are your thoughts on Apple’s TV plans? Would you replace your current cable distributor for it? Let us know in the comments below!
