Live Blog: Follow Along for Updates on Apple’s Big Announcement
Update! Apple’s big (giant, huge, monumental) event is ON! Forget all those leaked pics and crazy rumors because the fiction will be separated from the facts today. Finally. It’s time to see the real deal iPhone 6, maybe both of ’em, get a sneak peek (or more?) at Apple’s wearable and see how Craig Federighi’s hair is parted. We’ll be following along with our own front row seats, so stay tuned for live updates all AM!
Apple Watch is being released in three different collections: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition. Forget those other activity trackers, with Apple’s new Workout app, your Sport watch will show real-time stats like calories, time, distance and pace and work with you on tracking your fitness and helping you reach pre-set health goals. The new Activity app will monitor your movement throughout the day.
Apple’s premiere wearable will start at $349 and be available early next year.
11:20 AM: Siri is at your service, at your wrist to help with all of your daily to dos. Send messages and get notifications with the help of preset phrases and smart responses. Bands are available in plastic, leather and metal to suit anyone’s style profile. We’ll take anything with a rose gold face stat, pls.
11:05 AM: THE APPLE WATCH!
11:00 AM: “The next chapter in Apple’s story…”
10:50 AM: Apple Pay wants to make mobile payments a real thing while you’re traveling, shopping or Ubering from A to B. Tim Cook set up a demo that shows how speedy and simple Apple will make paying for things in thousands of places online and IRL. You’ll be able to use this seamless service in 220,000 US merchant locations that allow contactless payments, along with Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Walgreens, Duane Reade, Staples, Subway, McDonald’s (which is adding ApplePay to their drive thru), Whole Foods and Apple (obvi) are already on board along with a ton of apps making Apple Pay a one-click solution to online shopping.
10:48 AM: Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon will be the new voices of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus commercials. Yes and yes.
10:45 AM: iPhone 6 will come in gold, silver and space gray and is relatively affordable. We hope you’re sitting down for the price reveal (it’s actually good news), the 6’s pricing breaks down to $199 for 16GB, $299 for 64GB and $399 for 128 GB (all with a typical 2-year carrier contract).
10:40 AM: “These are the best phones ever made… and I think the best anyone’s ever seen” — big words from Apple’s Phil Schiller. But we’re drinking this super cool-aid, especially for our future Instagram game, sure to be heightened with the phone’s new 8MP iSight camera that features an all-new sensor and (from the pix they shared!) some impressive photo capabilities.
10:35 AM: Let’s talk about health, baby. The above is a look at iOS 8’s new Health app. The iPhone 6’s M8 coprocessor will always be measuring motion data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass. It will also have a barometer to sense air pressure. Oh, the places we’ll go, iPhone 6 <3
10:25 AM: So you know the iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen and the Plus has a 5.5-inch screen (compared to iPhone 5’s 4-inch screen — hey, some rumors ARE true), but let’s flip them over and compare width.
Check out the landscape view for the iPhone 6 Plus — looks gorgeous. As it should, the iPhone 6 has over one million pixels while the iPhone 6 Plus has over TWO million pixels, with a full 1080 HD resoution. Whoa.
10:15 AM: Kill the drumroll — after a little (okay, a lot of) live stream issues, here they are, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus! Oo, ah, need, want.
9:30 AM: Let’s take a look at the first glimpses of the event, specifically that massive white structure that apparently people at #AppleLive are calling MOAT aka Mother of All Tents. TELL US YOUR SECRETS, TENT!
Apple posted the above pic this morning, while The Verge’s Dieter Bohn caught someone wiping the dew off of it earlier today. Who knew buildings experience stress sweat. Apple event structures, they’re just like us!
Gwen Stefani tweeted and ‘grammed this pic of her en route to the event WITH Dr. Dre. To quote Em, we kinda “forgot about Dre.” This could mean many things: a LAMB line of Apple headphones and wearables. An iWatch that’s way more fashion forward and musical than we ever imagined or just amplified star power at this already VIP-studded (fashion man Derek Blasberg is already live tweeting) soiree. Whatever it means, we’re extra on the edge of our seats.
Does this look anything like all of you? This is kinda what my desk looks like now tbqh.
And, last but not least, look! It’s the best leaked pic of the Apple wearable YET, h/t @jorcohen!!! ;)
