Ariana Grande Pays Heartbreaking Tribute to Mac Miller: ‘You Were My Dearest Friend’
In the week since Mac Miller’s death at age 26, fans and friends alike have flooded social media with tributes to the rapper and everything he meant to them. Today, September 14, Ariana Grande joined them, taking to Instagram to share her heartbreak over Miller’s passing.
“i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will,” the “Sweetener” singer captioned a video of the late musician, whom she dated for two years. “i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it.”
In the short clip, Miller is seen talking to Grande when he realizes she’s filming him. “Baby, stop!” he says, laughing and reaching out to cover the camera with his hand. Grande can be heard laughing along with him and saying, “It makes me happy,” as he hides his face in his sweatshirt.
“we talked about this. so many times,” she wrote in her caption. “i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest.”
Grande previously shared a black-and-white photo of Miller, sans caption, on September 8, one day after his death.
Miller, who spoke openly about his battle with addiction, died Friday, September 7, of what was reported to be an apparent overdose. An official cause of death is still pending.
