In a year full of roses — and thorns — The Bachelor couple Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham have had their fair share of time in the spotlight, especially now that Burnham is pregnant with the couple's first child. We toured their private Phoenix, Arizona, home for a real-life glimpse into their happy ending. In collaboration with Wayfair and designer Olivia Rassow, the couple created a modern farmhouse worthy of Fixer Upper. If you're ready to see the most dramatic (and fabulous) renovation ever, keep scrolling through.
Couples know that the first and biggest test to cohabitation can be agreeing on decor styles. Luckily for this pair, they both settled on the same neutral palette. “I think we have similar styles,” Luyendyk says. “I would say mine is obviously more masculine and a bit more simplistic. I really like how it all turned out, though; she really helped make the house feel warmer and inviting.“
Once they settled on an approach, the first space to tackle was the living room. To outfit this large area, the interior designer suggested a few styling hacks to make it feel more lived-in. “We wanted to stick to a cool color palette with a mix of grays and white, but we pulled in a warm mix of gold and brown to add some dimension,” says Luyendyk. The final result was collected, yet cozy, and a real hit among the couple. “We are obsessed with everything in it; from the neutral rug to the white couches, to the chestnut leather accent chairs. It is absolutely stunning,” he adds.
Books and objects are arranged just so in the living room.
At any given time, there are two cooks in this kitchen — both Luyendyk and Burnham love to prepare food! So naturally, stocking their light and airy space full of high-quality utensils was a must.
On their list? “Some of our must-have cooking essentials would have to be a good set of mixing bowls, quality pots and pans, and an overwhelming amount of wooden spoons and spatulas, " says Luyendyk.
Continuing with the farmhouse feel, the duo chose a birch-style table to set the tone for the room. However, it was also imporant that they layered in accents that would still make the room feel elevated for fancier affairs. “To make it a little more formal, we paired [the table] with more traditional style chairs. The rug we selected for underneath the table is a bit darker than everything else in that room to add some contrast,” says Luyendyk.
An unexpected bouquet lends a farmhouse feel.
But the space they were most excited about was a less communal one. "We looove our master bedroom. We love the woven wool rug. It adds an element of comfort to the room along with the plush white bedding, “ says The Bachelor star.
While Luyendyk is drawn to the well-made nightstands, Burnham has a pick of her own. “One of my favorite details is the artificial fig tree in the corner. It was one of the last pieces added to the room, and I feel like it really brought everything together,” she says.
Plenty of drawers and cabinets keep clutter to a minimum.
Even though the pair *just* moved into their new digs, they already have an eye on future plans for the place. “We are in the process of putting in a pool now that we have finished the decor inside. We’ve already got a grill out there and we plan to add some cabanas and a cool sitting area, so it will be the perfect spot to entertain friends! I think once the wedding is over we’ll probably start planning parties. Maybe for Halloween next year or an ugly Christmas sweater party," says Luyendyk.
