12 Home Decor Ideas I'm Stealing From This Gorgeous Austin, TX Remodel

When a young family approached Alice Arterberry of Austin-based design firm Arterberry Cooke and Danny Spears of Captex Construction, they were looking to transform a five bed, five bath home in Austin into their dream home. And they were clear about three things: it needed to feel cozy, warm, and lived-in.
“We wanted the design to reflect a timeless and classic look," says Alice, "that would stand the test of time and wouldn't feel outdated quickly, while still feeling modern and fresh."
The result? A home that “exudes sophistication and elegance, while being infused with that character and charm found throughout homes in Austin," she adds.
Here are 12 home decor ideas that I’m bookmarking from this design for future reference!
Arched Hallways
"The home is quintessential Austin with its classic yet contemporary feel," says Alice. Bucking trends, the design team decided to use a neutral palette throughout the main level and incorporated lots of natural wood beams that draw the eye upward. I love the arched hallway, and woven art piece, which gives the neutral aesthetic a little flair.
Oversized Windows
Oversized windows bring the outdoors in and the black steel frame add architectural interest inside. I also adore this stone coffee table as a central piece for gathering around. Here's a similar look: West Elm Monti Coffee Table.
Cozy Dining Room
Imagine gabbing around the dining table all evening because your guests are so comfortable. These cushiony dining chairs are divine. For a similar look, try the Kala Upholstered Armchair.
Moody Bar Area
This moody bar area with dark walls and gold accents beautifully blends Southern charm with unexpected layers and textures, notes Alice. The dramatic dark walls are painted inBenjamin Moore Wrought Iron. And the modern club chairs make you just want to sit back and relax.
Natural Wood Cabinets
This kitchen feels elevated and bright without feeling overly trendy– the perfect clean slate for a growing family. It can be easily personalized with plants, cookbooks, and pottery.
Wall-to-Wall Organization
This wall unit is perfect for families with small children with hidden storage, matching baskets, and frames of family photos. Love the reading wall lights above too. No kids? This is also great for collections like albums, books, and office supplies.
Wallpapered Ceiling
Alice chose Anthropologie's Grow House Grow Fauna Fantasia Wallpaper to add to the ceiling in the kids’ bedroom, and it's so sweet for kids to admire while falling asleep!
Unique Lighting
Adding a statement pendant to the bathroom is a fun way to add unique decor without taking up limited space. This Magnolia Pendant is from Anthropologie but sold out. Try the Magnolia Chandelier for a similar look.
Fireplace In The Bedroom
This master bedroom is design GOALS. Currently dreaming of waking up on a Saturday morning with a roaring fireplace while binging on my favorite decor shows. The natural wood beams over the bed elevate the room's design too.
Even Better: Fireplace in the Bathroom
To achieve a cozy, warm, and lived-in feel, Alice added in lots of fireplaces throughout the home, including one in the primary bath, something she says is rare for Central Texas. I'm bookmarking this idea with the life goal to own a bathroom fireplace someday (a girl can dream).
Outdoor Kitchen And Dining
The Austin home also features an incredible outdoor space that is perfect for entertaining. The full outdoor kitchen and outdoor dining table with mitered waterfall edges sit adjacent to an expansive pool and spa. While my budget may not ever accommodate all of the above (median home prices in California, where I live, are more than triple that of Austin!). Still, I can mimic the ideas of an inviting outdoor kitchen space where guests can lounge and gab and even watch TV outdoors.
