The Bachelor’s Nick Viall, Vanessa Grimaldi Split, End Engagement
Less than six months after viewers watched Nick Viall’s proposal to Vanessa Grimaldi on season 21 of The Bachelor, the reality stars have split.
In a joint statement to E! News, the couple said, “It’s with a great amount of heartbreak for the both [of] us as we have decided to end our engagement. We gave this relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairy-tale ending we hoped for. We will continue to be there for each other no matter what. This hasn’t been an easy decision, however, as we part ways, we do so with lots of love and admiration for each other.”
Bachelor fans never really loved their relationship. Viewers though their After the Final Rose interview seemed tense and stilted, and they had a few awkward moments when Viall was a contestant on Dancing With the Stars, too. During a rehearsal, Viall grabbed Grimaldi (who was watching from the audience) and planted a not-very-romantic-looking kiss on his then-fiancée.
Last month, the pair admitted they were in “no rush” to walk down the aisle. At a charity event in Los Angeles, Viall told reporters, “I think it’s always important to take things slow.”
Prior to the split, the two were spending the majority of their time together in his hometown of LA. “We’re just not really spending a lot of time apart,” he told E! News. “She’s spending a lot of time out here in LA and we’ll keep doing that.”
Viall’s stint on The Bachelor was his fourth attempt to find love on a Bachelor Nation show. He previously finished as the runner-up in both Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe’s seasons of The Bachelorette before going on to Bachelor in Paradise last year.
