Why You’ll Love Banana Republic’s Latest Collab With Marimekko
We’ve put their prints on our desktops and even painted them on our nails, and now we’ll get to add the colorful stylings of Marimekko to our closets just by making a trip to the mall. All print-crazy, pattern-obsessed and color-loving sets, prepare to freak: the Finnish textile masters have created a spirited 27-piece limited-edition line for Banana Republic that’s available in-stores and online starting May 22, 2014.
The recently released lookbook makes it apparent that these two brands were made for each other: BR’s classic cuts + Marimekko’s most iconic bright and bubbly patterns = timeless statement dresses, separates and accessories that can be worn to all of your swankiest sun-kissed affairs.
Throughout the collection, traditional prints are whimsically reinvented as bolder versions of themselves: polka dots become boulder-like black dots on a full fit-and-flare midi skirt and tapered leg pants, and rugby stripes turn into ocean-inspired rows of snugly placed blue and white circles that spot chic tunics and tops. Mix and match to your heart’s content (we would!) or pair the head-turners with signature BR creams, whites and grays.
To be real, what really got us pumped about this collab is that it’s extremely affordable. According to The Cut, the entire collection is priced from $39.50 to $140, which means the most expensive piece is less than half the price of Marimekko’s self-produced, high end garments. Now that’s print-happy news!
