Wear This Beauty and the Beast Couples Costume for an Enchanting Halloween
Brit + Co is definitely a one-stop shop for all Disney Costume DIYs! We’ve got costumes from Peter Pan and Tink to Elsa and Anna to an adorable Baby Dory. Today we bring you one more. Few stories are more classic than Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. It is, after all, a tale as old as time. What’s awesome about this classic animated movie is that people, male or female, old or young, love it so much. In fact, when I asked our Planner, Sydney, and our Video Production Assistant, Cody, to be my models for Belle and the Beast, they both immediately said yes.
Belle Costume
Belle’s iconic yellow dress was much simpler to make than I anticipated. Kelly, our DIY Designer, was out thrift shopping for pieces for one of her costume DIYs and found a white sparkly dress that she thought would make a good princess outfit. I dyed it yellow with some Rit dye and sewed a couple strips of sheer yellow fabric on the top to make off-the-shoulder straps. I glued the rest of the yellow fabric in a scalloped line for the ruffle along the hemline on the skirt.
The skirt wasn’t as flouncy as I would have liked, so I bought a Sweetdresses Petticoat ($13) from Amazon to go underneath. I bought a pair of Glaze Ankle Strap Sandals ($27) to finish the look.
Misty, Beauty Editor Extraordinaire, gave Sydney bouncy curls and swept her hair up in a perfect Belle half-updo.
Now it’s no wonder that her name means “Beauty.”
Beast Costume
I didn’t want to go full-on beast with this costume. After all, I don’t think a lot of guys would want to wear a furry mask that covers their entire face for a whole day. This Beast costume struck a good balance of beast and dapper gentleman.
I bought a Benibos Slim Fit Navy Blazer ($29) from Amazon, navy dress pants from Target, and a white shirt and a pair of brown dress shoes from Ross. I hot glued gold ribbon along the lapel and down the sides of the pants.
To transform Cody into the Beast, I bought a HatButik Fox Anime Faux Animal Hood ($20) from Amazon and put it on his head.
This is Beast seeing Belle descend from the staircase in her yellow dress.
Here is where she meets Prince Charming.
There may be something there that wasn’t there before.
Fun fact: The Beast’s human name is Prince Adam.
Tale as old as time. Song as old as rhyme. Beauty and the Beast.
