Despite not winning the Democratic nom, Bernie Sanders will definitely have a place in a lot of people’s hearts as the spunky elderly man with the hair of a cartoon mad scientist (I mean that in the best way possible). His look is truly iconic, so we could not resist doing a Bernie Sanders Halloween costume DIY.
For this Bernie Sanders costume, we dressed photographer Kurt in some slacks, white shirt, jacket and dress shoes from Target. I bought a pair of sunglasses from Walgreens and punched out the lenses to make them into old man glasses. I also bought a red tie from Ross for extra political-ness.
For Bernie’s famous wacky hair, I bought a California Costumes Rude Grandpa Wig ($12) from Amazon and Misty, our fabulous beauty editor, fluffed it up so the hairs would stick up in different directions.
We lovingly call Kurt Burt sometimes, so today he was known as Burtie :)
Normally, Kurt is behind the camera, so it was awesome seeing his modeling chops. You go Burtie!
