This Beyoncé News Will Inspire You to Learn a New Skill in 2016
As we reflect back on everything that happened in 2015, it’s only natural to begin to wonder what the new year has in store for us. And typically, that tends to lead to creating a list of New Year’s resolutions. But this year, we vote you skip the typical “lose 10 pounds” resolution and instead follow in Beyoncé’s footsteps.
According to Us Weekly, the iconic vocalist is building up that “triple threat” title by enrolling in acting lessons. An insider reports, “She wants to land leading roles in movies and has been taking classes in New York and L.A. for the past year.” They go on to explain, “Bey’s looking for an iconic dramatic role. She wants to make a film that’s socially relevant to African American rights.”
Rumors will be rumors (and, to note, we aren’t into reporting on them… unless they’re as creative as this one) so who knows whether we should actually be preparing ourselves for the emotional rollercoaster that is sure to be her Oscar acceptance speech, but regardless this news provides us with a heavy dose of inspiration to copy Bey by taking some time in the coming year to learn a new skill. Maybe that means also heading to the acting studio but it could even be something as simple as learning to knit.
Not convinced yet? A study conducted by the Association for Psychological Science found that people who actively taught themselves something new and unfamiliar showed “improvements in memory compared to those who engaged in social activities or non-demanding mental activities at home.” Another study conducted by San Francisco State University discovered through their research that working hard at improving a skill or ability results in greater happiness both on a daily and longer term basis as well as a decrease in stress levels.
