Beyoncé Is Officially Bringing Back the Side Ponytail
Flirty, fun and peppy, a high ponytail is always a solid choice. On the flip side, a reserved and subtle low pony is also another valid option should you wish. But the side pony? That’s one updo we thought we buried with our shoulder pads and neon exercise clothes from the ’80s. But right now that old saying “everything old is new again” is ringing in our ears louder than Richard Simmons during one of his workout VHS tapes.
Last night while attending TIDAL X: 10/20, a live streaming concert that promoted artists featured on Jay Z’s Spotify alternative, Beyoncé was spotted on the red carpet looking all kinds of flawless in a low-cut burgundy dress with an ultra-high, slightly off-center ponytail.
This actually isn’t the first time Bey has rocked this look. She also sported the same hairstyle at this year’s Met Gala. That time the style was reportedly a last-minute decision done in the elevator, but it looks like she’s become a pretty big fan of the throwback look.
While the style is definitely reminiscent of the ponytails we used to rock in the ’80s, it has a modern air about it. Maybe it’s just because Beyoncé is wearing it and anything Beyoncé wears just works or maybe it’s because of this particular style’s soft curls and hair-wrapped base.
If you’re digging the look, we’ve got some good news: You don’t need a celebrity hairstylist to copy it. Our beauty editor Misty Spinney already has a 10-minute tutorial that shows you exactly how to copy the side pony. So whatcha waiting for? Grab your curling iron, press play on the ultimate diva’s self-titled album and, you know, just be Yoncé.
