Blake Lively Shows Us the Prettiest Way to Wear Menswear Ever
There is a reason we shamelessly style stalk Blake Lively. The actress is famous for putting new, totally covetable spins on trends at the drop of a hat, like that time she stepped out to shop and started a must-try maternity craze with her then bump/now baby James bundled in a printed coat, or when she made us reconsider the signature way to wear a fishtail braid by pulling the over-the-shoulder look way up on the Cannes red carpet. Now with her latest look at the after party for the New York premiere of Age of Adeline, Blake has changed everything we knew about how to wear a blazer and pants. Behold: Blake’s sheer star-studded bodysuit and long black jacket, aka the prettiest way to wear menswear-inspired clothing ever.
Even though this isn’t the first time the tailored top + sheer bottoms pairing has caused waves on the red carpet (think: Emma Stone’s SAG Awards gown), Blake’s layered look flawlessly marries some of 2015’s biggest style trends — plunging neckline, thigh-high slit, chic suiting, cool-girl turtleneck; check, check, check and check — to create one of the most polished party looks/best dressed on New Year’s Eve ensembles we’ve ever laid eyes on. While we’re not holding our breath for sheer jumpsuits to start popping up for sale anytime soon, there are plenty of tailored longline jackets on the market that could take your going-out look to the next level, see-through pants or no (though full disclosure, we *are* prepared to hack it with a good ol’ American Apparel mesh body suit ($44) + a pair of sheer tights ($20).
