Blake Lively’s Golden Globes Hairstyle Is Actually Just a Fancy Ponytail
From Lily Collin’s princess gown to Janelle Monae’s updated chignon, the A-listers definitely tried out some hot new trends Sunday night at the 2017 Golden Globes. We couldn’t take our eyes off of one hairstyle in particular, worn by none other than Blake Lively (it seems, from the photo below, Ryan Reynolds felt the same). At first look, her updo looks like a complicated concoction, but surprise! It’s not made up by separate sections, but rather, crafted from just ONE pony. Lazy girls everywhere are always on the lookout for the new ponybun, and pssst… this is it!
Blake’s hair pro Rod Ortega tried not one, not two, but THREE different looks on the All I See Is You star, and according to the celeb stylist, “We liked this one best by far.” Same.
He started by drying her hair with a T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i Dryer ($250) and a T3 Anti-Gravity Round Brush ($25). “When drying, lift up from the root to achieve maximum volume,” he tells Brit + Co. Then, he curled two-inch sections with a T3 Whirl Convertible Styling Wand ($185) and pinned them to set. Afterward, Rod used L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray ($15) — a good trick to make stubborn hair pliable before styling. Then, he pulled her hair into a simple high ponytail.
Next comes the fun part. “I twisted the pony and pinned down the sides of the twist as I went. I then tucked the bottom of the pony under the twist and secured with more pins,” he tells us. Of course, once everything is pinned in place, spritz it over again with more hairspray.
Whether you’re off to a red carpet or not, boost your hair’s shine with gloss. Use whatever you’d like, but Rod picked L’Oréal’s Nutri Gloss Glossing Mist ($7) for Blake. And if you’re looking to jazz up the style even more, Rod is all for it. “Make it your own, from boho to very sleek, smooth or messy,” he says. “You can mix it up and intermix the pony with a braid by pulling pieces out and braiding them.”
It’s that easy.
