Blake Lively’s Press Tour Hair Is a Lesson in Office-Appropriate, Not-Basic Hairstyles
In case you missed it, Blake Lively is currently on a press tour with A Simple Favor co-star, Anna Kendrick. The two have been seen strutting all over New York City and, for once, it’s not their sheer celebrity that’s gaining major attention, but rather Lively’s impeccable menswear-style suit ensembles that seem to only be getting better by the day. .
And as much as we love the look of a badass babe reclaiming the comfort of pants, it’s not just her clothes that have gained our attention — it’s her hair, too. Where we’re used to seeing the blonde bombshell with big, bouncy waves, her latest looks are office-appropriate hairstyles that are both chic and easy-to-achieve. So to learn how these simple, head-turning coifs were brought to life, we turned to Lively’s hairstylist, Ron Ortega, for all the juicy details.
“I feel like women believe they always have to wear their hair back in a bun when wearing a suit, but I wanted to provide alternatives and create more of a soft, simple, loose, classic look to compliment the structured silhouette of a suit,” Ortega says.
FIRST Look: Undone Side Braid
Get the Look: “This suit had a lot going on, so we definitely wanted to keep the hair swept back,” Ortega says. “To start, I used the T3 Cura LUXE Hair Dryer and the Ibiza 2” Round Brush for a full-bodied blowout. I then used a paddle brush to smooth in Christophe Robin Intense Regenerating Balm ($38) and took the hair and swept it to the side with a deep side part. I then created a classic braid and secured with an elastic. The key to keeping the volume for this look is the blowout with the T3 Cura LUXE. That keeps the softness and silkiness of the hair, but also maintains the body.” (Photo via James Devaney/Getty)
SECOND Look: Fishtail Braid
Get the Look: “Again, I started this look with a fresh blowout with the T3 Cura LUXE Hair Dryer and 2” Ibiza Round Brush,” Ortega says. “I then used a paddle brush, and just a little Christophe Robin Intense Regenerating Balm, and brushed it through the lengths. Next, I brushed it up into a sleek pony and secured with an elastic. I then created a fishtail braid, and secured. The key to making this pony stay in place is Frenchies Hair Pins ($14) — they always make sure my updos don’t go anywhere.” (Photo via Gotham/Getty)
THIRD Look: Voluminous Pony
Get the Look: “I began my look as I did with the others — a fresh blowout,” Ortega says. “I then used the T3 SinglePass Wave ($160) to create waves around the whole head. After waving the hair, I used a paddle brush and pulled up into a pony, securing with an elastic. The Tousled Wave Barrel ($85) allows me to create lots of texture to make the pony full, but also soft and effortless.” (Photo via Robert Kamau/Getty)
FOURTH Look: Sleek Bun
Get the Look: “Another fresh blowout,” Ortega says. “I then used my paddle brush and brushed through the Christophe Robin Intense Regenerating Balm to create a smooth side part. Next, I twisted the hair into a bun and secured with Frenchies pins.” (Photo via James Devaney/ Getty)
With four easy ways to switch up that office hair game, your looks next week will never be fresher. Happy styling!
