We’re Sipping This Hot Drink All Season Long (Hint: It’s Not PSL)
If pumpkin spice is the taste of the fall season, then chai is the essence. Though there are plenty of options on the market, one of our favorites of all time happens to be instant, so you can get cozy ever-so-quickly. Filled with the healing spices of ginger, star anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, and cardamom, Blue Lotus Rooibos Chai ($18 for 65 cups) has become a pantry staple among us food writers and editors. Though it’s not a new product, we feel pretty strongly that tea fiends will adore this beverage. Here’s why.
Certified organic and non-GMO, the water-soluble, flash-dried teas are mixed with powdered spices which dissolve immediately in hot water or steamed milk. Blue Lotus Chai is unsweetened and contains no cream so you can doctor to your liking with the sweetener and milk of choice, thus controlling the calorie count. The blend is comforting yet invigorating in the morning but provides a relaxing nightcap after a long day.
Each container comes with a cute bamboo spoon to give you the freedom to scoop out what you want and monitor the flavor intensity. It’s pretty spicy, so a little goes a long way. Beyond frothing it up cold or hot with milk and a dollop of honey, you can add a healthy dose of heat to your preferred coffee creation to make a dirty chai. We’ve also been known to add this in place of pumpkin spice in muffins, pancakes, cupcakes, and more.
Blue Lotus Chai comes in Traditional Masala Chai, Rooibos Masala Chai, Star Anise, Mandarin, and Turmeric, but we’re partial to the Rooibos as it’s caffeine-free.
