Meet the “Fat Girl Flow” Blogger Helping to Redefine Beauty Standards
From Tess Holiday to #Plussizeplease, we’re loving the body positive movement and the way it’s changing image standards. While print magazines and other media images might be pushing an unattainable body as the norm, we’re thrilled to see fearless body positive leaders creating more options out there for women. Our newest hero? Corissa, the founder and writer of Fat Girl Flow. She’s using her blog to showcase beautiful women of all shapes and sizes.
Corissa stands out from other body-positive bloggers because she showcases women whose bodies are rarely recognized, even in the plus-size community. Many fashion designers who feature a plus-size line rarely carry clothes beyond a 3X or size 26. Most plus-size models tend to be well above average height and skew towards being around a size 16 or 18. Corissa saw a need to highlight more women who are petite or of average height and those who wear a size 28 or larger.
The blog includes posts that help women find clothing that fits in both size and style. Corissa has received an outpouring from fans who feel their fashion world has been rocked thanks to her advice. Her site also features many pictures of women (not models) in bikinis and swimwear, so consumers can get a sense of how the garments will look on their bodies. These images of gorgeous women celebrating their confidence are something that all women — at every size — could stand to see more of.
