As much as I crave a romance like Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, or a wardrobe like Eloise's, there is one aspect of Bridgerton that's actually really attainable in 2024: their makeup! Makeup designer Erika Ökvist gave us some secrets from the makeup trailer for how you can achieve that Bridgerton glow this summer — without looking sweaty or greasy. And the best part? You can pick up her product recommendation from Sephora right now! Keep reading for all the makeup tips and tricks that will come together for the perfect romantic look.
How do you make your makeup look glowy?

Glowy makeup is a lot easier than you might think, and it all starts with your skincare. In addition to tailoring your skincare to your own skin goals, Ökvist says it's okay if it fluctuates a bit. "Find a skin routine that works for you and when you need more help, like after a night out," she recommends. "This will help those dehydrated patches. [A] facial massage hugely helps to wake the skin up."
"Also, sunscreen," she adds. "From a skin cancer person, never leave home without 30 SPF." I love adding in this Facial Moisturizer with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen into my daily routine.
Ökvist also points out you can use more than one primer for a makeup look! "You can have loads [of primer] -- anti-shine for the nose, pore refining for the cheeks, etc. All really helpful."
Find a glowy primer that you love, like the Saie Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Multipurpose Illuminator or the Rare Beauty Illuminating Primer.
What makeup do they use in Bridgerton?

Once your skin is hydrated and ready for makeup application, it's time to have fun! I love looking at makeup like art (after all, you DO have different pigments and brushes...). Erika Ökvist reveals that one product used on the Bridgerton set is the Make Up For Ever HD Skin Face Essentials.
"All of the actors [have] got new hair and makeup every time we see them," she says. "So I think every single actor would have had hundreds of products, but something that we used a lot on a lot of the actors was the Make Up For Ever foundation and blush palette as an underpainting for a lot of our looks."
Underpainting is a technique that places your bronzer, blush, and concealer underneath your foundation instead of on top for a more natural-looking flush. Then it's time to bring on the sparkle! I love using a bit of the Elf Halo Glow under my foundation, and finishing the look with the Rare Beauty Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight.
How to prevent your makeup from sweating off?

To help your makeup seamlessly blend together, and to get an airbrushed look, Erika Ökvist recommends a "makeup hydration spray to GROW the makeup. Then a sponge to blend." Then you're ready to set with powder and a setting spray!
I speak from experience when I say there are few things more disappointing than leaving the house with the perfect makeup look...and then immediately sweating it off. Never fear — Ökvist has the perfect sweat-proof makeup tip: grab a damp paper towel if you notice sweat starting to peek through your makeup.
"The best way is to use [paper towels] and dampen them once," she says. "It will take all of the sweat away but not the makeup."
How do I know my highlighter shade?
With color matching, color analysis, and dozens of product shades, it can be confusing to figure out exactly what color you should buy. Ökvist reveals that on set, they might try three separate shades on an actor's wrist to figure out which matches them best (which is also a trick beauty store employees will do).
In terms of highlighter and blush, it really depends on the look you're going for. I love a natural peachy blush for the everyday, and a more coral shade for summer.
"You could probably pull off any blusher or highlighter depending on how much product you apply," Ökvist says. "So it is up to you, what you want to use, as long as you apply it... sparingly, up until the point where you're satisfied. If you did put on, like, a very strong red directly on on somebody, it might be too much, but if you did it very lightly, it might just look fantastic, so it's how you apply it that will sort of determine if it works or not."How to start makeup for beginners?

If you've never been into makeup before, but want to start, all this talk of setting sprays and highlighters and color matching can be overwhelming. But the good thing is that makeup is supposed to be fun. And it's all about finding what makes you feel your best. "I would say if you feel romantic then you are," Ökvist says. "Don’t let anyone tell you how to look!"
"Don't be scared of makeup," she continues. "If you feel a little bit scared, I would layer things on and put it on little by little by little because it's more difficult to take away than to add on. But never be scared of it. Makeup should be your friend. And also, there is never an appropriate makeup for anyone. Whatever makes you happy and makes you feel great is the makeup that you should have."
That sounds like good advice to me!
