How to DIY the Top 5 Britney Spears Looks for Halloween
Oh, we did it alright! There are major Britney fans here in our headquarters. For the title of #1 Spearsaholic, it’s an honest toss up between Miss Brit Morin, CEO of Brit + Co herself and our Editorial Director Lisa Raphael. Fun fact — Brit was actually asked to be a real life Britney Spears impersonator in her hay day (I have personally heard her sing and the resemblance is unreal!)! Lisa, on the other hand, can do ALL of Britney’s signature choreography so you can imagine how excited she was when we enlisted her to model for this epic five ways to become the most classic B-Spears tutorial. I knew I had to do these women proud, so I was on my A-game while shopping, sourcing and DIYing these looks. Here is how you can transform yourself into our favorite princess of pop for Halloween… or just, like any Tuesday.
1. Britney Spears 2001 MTV Music Awards
What you need:
– denim corset
– 2 pairs of old jeans
– chain
– bling necklace
– hot glue
– silver/rhinestone bangles
Booo, Lisa needs her Justin! This look was actually intimidating at first, but once I got over the need to replicate it exactly, I had more fun and you can too. For the skirt all you have to do is cut out the center seam of two pairs of denim jeans for starters. One pair you will slide on and the other pair you will cut long strips of the denim out to hot glue over the gaps that are in the pair you are wearing. This process is surprisingly easy. Repeat the same on the back of the pair you are wearing until you have made this skirt. I took an extra piece of denim and folded it into the clutch and hot glued rhinestones onto it to make the bag. For her belt, it is just chain wrapped around a bangle and safety pinned in the back. To help tie in the top, you can hot glue the pockets from the pants you cut to use as fillers for the skirt onto it. Now all you need is a date to play your JT!
What you need:
2. Britney Spears “Baby One More Time”
– black skirt
– black thigh high socks
– white button up
– grey cardigan
– pink poofy fabric
Oh, the innocence that would soon evolve into quite the sex symbol. (For Britney, not Lisa.) If you want to tap into the OG Miss Spears, this look can potentially be pulled straight from your closet. To really hone in on this look you need to make sure you put pink poufs onto your pony pigtails. Aside from that — you got this!
What you need:
3. Britney Spears “Circus”
– whip
– black tall boots
– black tights
How awesome is this Amazon Prime find?!? Honestly, all you need is this and some sick boots and tights to pull this look off. If you really wanted to take it to the next level, you could add bigger fringe to the shoulders and perhaps some glitter and black rhinestones to the onesie.
This is Lisa’s all-time favorite B-Spears song and, boy, was she channeling! Though, perhaps she leaves the whipping to the pro herself!
What you need:
4. Britney Spears “Slave (4 U)”
– red wrap bikini
– black shiny leggings
– red fabric
– sea salt spray and water bottle spary
– hot glue
You kind of have to order this bikini because it is SO legit. I found it on Amazon Prime and ended up spray painting it a brighter red because it was more of a magenta red. Simply layer it over your pants and make yourself an arm band by folding a long piece of red fabric over your arm held together with hot glue.
Ahh I. Can’t. Even. This is MY personal all-time favorite! I couldn’t stop staring at Lisa when she was shooting this. I swear she instantly became Britney once she stepped into this look. I wish I had a video of her dancing and singing verbatim, but here is a peek into that goodness. I gave her a little sea salt spray in her hair to piece it out for that wet sweaty look and misted her upper body down with some water for the authentic look and it was ON! Lisa — YOU are my hero for rocking this look so damn well!
