Watch Broadway’s Elsa Sing a New Song from the ‘Frozen’ Musical
Broadway’s new Frozen musical not only features a stellar cast and absolutely stunning costumes, but also includes 12 completely new, original songs. In honor of the first night of previews, Disney released a video of Caissie Levy, who plays Elsa, performing “Monster,” the first song to be released from the musical’s soundtrack.
In the heart-wrenching (yet rockin’) ballad, which comes during the show’s second act, Elsa struggles with the question of whether she is, in fact, a monster.
“Were they right?” she asks. “Has the dark in me finally come to light? Am I a monster full of rage? Nowhere to go but on a rampage. Or am I just a monster in a cage?” She goes on to ponder, “Was I a monster from the start? How did I end up with this frozen heart?”
Written by Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who were also responsible for the songs in the beloved Disney film, “Monster” could very well be the next “Let It Go.”
The Broadway production is planning to release one new song from the soundtrack every week for the next three weeks. Get ready for “What Do You Know About Love?” — which is a duet between Anna (played by Patti Murin) and Kristoff (Jelani Alladin) — as well as a solo from Anna called “True Love” and another Elsa tune, “Dangerous to Dream.”
If you won’t get the chance to see Frozen on Broadway, it certainly sounds like the soundtrack will be the next best thing.
