Watch the Unexpectedly Moving Trailer for Netflix’s ‘Springsteen on Broadway’ Special
There’s certainly no shortage of movies and TV specials to watch this holiday season, but if you find yourself putting in some couch time with the parents and looking for a break from everything festive, Netflix’s upcoming Springsteen on Broadway special might be exactly the unexpected tearjerker everyone will enjoy.
The documentary special brings living legend Bruce Springsteen’s critically acclaimed, thrice-extended Broadway stage show to your home on December 16. The solo monologue and song performance is based on the rocker’s best-selling 2016 autobiography Born to Run, and features several moving moments from Springsteen’s storied life.
“This is what I presented to you all these years as my long and noisy prayer,” the Boss says in the trailer. “And like all good magic tricks, it begins with a setup.” The iconic singer/songwriter goes on to tell very personal stories about his relationship with his father (whom he stirringly calls his “hero and greatest foe”), and his life with wife Patti Scialfa and their three children.
Scialfa, a singer and songwriter in her own right and longtime member of Springsteen’s E Street Band takes the stage for a performance as well. Expect to hear stripped-down versions of the Boss’ biggest hits, such as “Born to Run,” “Brilliant Disguise,” “Thunder Road,” and many more.
Springsteen on Broadway arrives on Netflix on Friday, December 16.
