Busy Philipps Says Courteney Cox Convinced Her to Get Help for Postpartum Anxiety
Many Hollywood moms, including Chrissy Teigen and Lena Headey, have talked publicly about their experiences with postpartum depression. And now Busy Philipps is opening up about her own struggles with postpartum anxiety, revealing that her former Cougar Town costar Courteney Cox was the one who convinced her to seek help.
“I was barely holding it together,” the mother of two told People of going through a rough period after the birth of her first daughter, Birdie, in 2008. “I didn’t want anyone else touching her. I felt like I was the only one that could help or soothe her. That was a hard time.”
When the actress joined the cast of Cougar Town, Cox stepped in to support her. “Courteney was like, ‘I think you should talk to a doctor about medication.'” Philipps took her new friend’s advice and was prescribed antidepressants, which she took for about a year-and-a-half.
Philipps still deals with social anxiety, but she told People that hard-core exercise (have you seen her sweat through those trampoline workouts?!) and support from her husband, writer-director Marc Silverstein, help her cope.
Philipps and her husband are a great team both at home and at work. The actress appears in the upcoming Amy Schumer comedy I Feel Pretty (in theaters April 20), which Silverstein co-wrote and directed.
