This Is What Happens When You Mix Rosé and the Search for the Perfect Hoops
We’ve all been there: In the backseat of a Lyft, happy-hour buzzed and homeward bound, fingertips occupied in an endless Insta scroll. And then it happens. That must-have purse or shoe pops up and you impulsively make the call to buy. This series explores the modern phenom that is online shopping when you’re a little sauced, and the sweet satisfaction or dreadful dismay that follows.
My Monday happy hour concluded, as they so often do, with one glass of rosé too many and a certain mid-morning headache in my future. But I digress. For now, let’s focus on that fated trip home, the factors that led me down an online shopping rabbit hole, and how, when it comes to fashion, Bella Hadid always knows best.
It all began weeks before when I started hunting for trendy, gold statement hoops. I’d been canvassing Etsy, Shopbop, Anthro, and all my other go-to online shops for a hot minute, in search of the right pair that met *all* my criteria.
When it comes to fashion, I prefer statement staples that I can wear every day — with my fave denim, casual athleisure, and stunner LWDs alike. Hoops certainly qualify, but because all pairs are not created equal, I was determined to find the best lightweight style that was both affordable and wouldn’t discolor over time (as gold-plated jewelry often does).
I finally found the Luv AJ Gold Amalfi Tube Hoops ($55) while perusing the ‘gram in bed one night and coming across a promoted — and clearly targeted — ad, and I was almost immediately sold. But even though these very classic hoops were not expensive and exactly what I was looking for, I, the very opposite of an impulse shopper, decided to wait, perhaps knowing subconsciously that I would need that little rosé-fueled push.
Fast forward to an IG scroll during the above mentioned post-happy hour ride home. Suddenly Bella Hadid pops up in my feed, and she’s rocking the same hoops! All signs clearly pointed to buy, and so I did. A couple of clicks later, I’m feeling like the confident shopper I certainly am not with the tracking number to prove it. And now Bella and I are practically twins, so double win.
Whether it’s spicing up my nine-to-five look, kickin’ it poolside, or bridesmaiding like a champ, these hoops are now my everything. Since that first foray into slightly drunk IG shopping, I find myself more curious about offbeat trends — like tiny sunglasses (not for me), ugly sneakers (nope), and side boob swimsuits (actually, yes). So what’s my takeaway? Let curiosity and an affordable rosé guide you in your shopping endeavors.
Retail Hangover Status: Totally worth it.
