Say Goodbye to Avo Toast and Hello to Cado Ice Cream
If you thought we’d hit peak avocado after years of seeing avocado toast, think again, because pints of avocado ice cream has just hit Whole Foods shelves. Cado Non-Dairy Avocado Frozen Dessert ($7) claims to be the first of its kind. Though it sounds strange, the fruit’s fatty creaminess provides the perfect base for a dairy-free frozen treat. The company has this to say on its site, “We use avocado as our base to create a rich and creamy texture full of heart healthy monounsaturated fat. But don’t worry, it doesn’t taste like avocado!”
So far, Cado has three flavors, including Deep Dark Chocolate, Simply Lemon, and Mint Chocolate Chip, with a pronounceable list of ingredients: organic avocado puree, non-organic avocado oil, and organic cane sugar. It’s gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, and vegan-friendly, so you can feel good about digging your spoon into a pint. Also, Cado only has 12 grams of sugar per serving, while your standard Ben & Jerry’s has a whopping 27 grams!
You can find Cado’s three flavors at many natural food stores and big chains including Whole Foods, who already wowed us earlier this summer with its 365 AlmondMilk Frozen Desserts (AKA ice cream) at $5 a pint. If you’re not screaming yet, Cado says they’re looking to add new flavors like Vanilla Bean, Salted Caramel Swirl, Cherry Amaretto, and Java Chip soon.
These three pints of Cado are already receiving rave reviews on social media. We have yet to try them, but we know what we’re adding to our next Instacart order.
