Captain Marvel’s First Official Trailer Will Give You Chills
Captain Marvel is the first woman-led movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and although we’ve been looking forward to it since it was first announced, we didn’t really know what to expect. That is, until today.
On Tuesday, September 18, Disney and Marvel released the first full trailer for the film, which hits theaters next spring. It looks like a full-throttle action adventure — and it’ll give you chills to see Oscar winner Brie Larson in character as the badass Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel.
The clip opens with a person falling out of a pod in outer space and crashing into a Blockbuster video. (The movie is set in the 1990s.) Next, we hear a familiar voice: Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, saying, “War is a universal language. I know a renegade soldier when I see one. It never occurred to me that one might come from above.”
As Jackson’s voice-over continues, we see a bewildered Carol Danvers finding her way in the world, at first cautiously and then with gusto. At one point, she leaps onto a moving bus, flips herself onto the roof of the vehicle, and shoots energy from her fingertips.
“Space invasion, big car chase… Truth be told, I was ready to hang it up before I met you today,” Nick Fury says, as he appears, digitally de-aged, behind Danvers. Then the trailer switches gears and we get a glimpse into just who Carol Danvers is.
Fans took to Twitter immediately after the trailer debuted, calling Larson “our Captain” and using the hashtag “#ShesTheCaptainNow.” Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until March 8, 2019, to see just how Captain Marvel fits into the Marvel universe. But until then, we can watch this trailer 100 more times (at least).
