Carrie Ann Inaba Surprised Her Mom While Co-Hosting Live With Kelly and Ryan
While Kelly Ripa is on vacation, her friend (and former Live! stand-in co-host) Carrie Ann Inaba is filling in with Ryan Seacrest. On today’s show, Inaba surprised her mom (who was in the audience to see Idris Elba), with a special request: The DWTS judge asked her mother, Patty, to be the matron of honor at her upcoming wedding to fiancé Robb Derringer.
After getting through the show’s regular intro, Inaba led off the surprise by wishing all her friends a “Happy Girlfriends’ Day.” She then shared the story of a bride who has been trying to auction off spots in her bridal party, to the shock of many online.
“That is horrible,” Inaba exclaimed. “I would never do that!” She continued, “I’m actually in the process of choosing my bridesmaids, and it is hard because you have your OG friends, I have my friends from Hawaii, then I have my friends from LA, I have my family friends… and then I have my mom.”
Looking to her mother, who was seated in the front row, Inaba said, “I wanted to ask you, Mom, would you be my matron of honor?” Surprised, Patty wiped a tear from her eye as Inaba quipped, “Is that a yes? SHE SAID YES!”
Inaba and Derringer got engaged last winter while on a secluded California beach, the same spot where they had their first date. “The ocean mist created an ambiance that was magical, and I will always remember the way that sky looked as Robb got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. All alone on that beautiful beach, it was as if time stood still and we were the only two people on Earth. I will never forget it. It was perfect. Getting engaged where we had that perfect first date was really such poetic destiny.”
