The Next Celeb Self-Help Book Authors Are *NOT* Who You Might Expect
It’s been a slow-but-sure evolution for a while now: the rise of the celebrity self-help guru. Gone are the days when stars simply rested on their laurels of being, well, plain old celebs. These days, it’s all about building an empire, a brand, and for many that just so happens to include a stint as a bestselling author — a sort of self-help guru, if you will. The formula is simple enough: 1. Find success; 2. Share tips for success in a memoir that fans can take to heart to (hopefully!) recreate said success.
1. Kristin Cavallari: Entering the ring just this week? Former reality starlet-turned-businesswoman/mom of three, Miss Kristin Cavallari. Her debut work as an auteur, Balancing in Heels: My Journey to Health, Happiness, and Making It All Work ($15), is already a #1 best-seller on Amazon, and promises to be chock full of life-changing gems both personal and professional. Case-in-point? How she’s helped to improve her husband’s type 1 diabetes symptoms through diet (in addition to juicier details on their relationship, of course — it is Kristin we’re talking about). Also on the pour-your-soul-out self-help-docket? Secrets on how she’s staying sane juggling it all as a full-time mom to three youngins, running and designing for her website, Emerald Duv and her ongoing Chinese Laundry collaboration — phew! If her revealing nature on The Hills was any indicator, we’ve got a feeling this is going to be a good read. (Photo via Grant Lamos IV)
2. Maria Menounos: Re-entering the ring — so to speak — is Maria Menounos, who delivers the latest and third installment in her “The EveryGirl’s Guide” series, The EveryGirl’s Guide to Cooking($13). Drawing upon her Greek heritage in what is sure to be part-memoir, part cookbook, Maria breaks the art of kitchen mastery down with dishes such as strawberry shortcake French toast, watermelon feta salad, double cheese stuffed artichokes (yum!) and more. Fresh off a recent engagement, we’ve got a sneaking suspicion what book number four might be about…dum dum de dum… (Photo by Theo Wargo/Getty Images)
3. Nicole LaValle (AKA Snooki): Nicole LaValle (you may know her as Snooki in a former life) has all but turned her life upside down — she went from a vodka wielding club rat to a power tool wielding DIY superstar, businesswoman and mom — and she’s outlined her path to the top in her latest book, Strong Is the New Sexy: My Kickass Story on Getting My Formula for Fierce($13). With tips on everything from how she got a healthier exterior (she shed 20 lbs and no longer drinks) to how she changed up her self-destructive mindset to a more productive, positive one, there’s bound to be some useful advice in here for just about everyone.
