The ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Reboot Has Found Its Stars
Charlie has a new team of Angels! It won’t be easy to follow in the footsteps of two iconic trios — Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson in the 1970s, and Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu in the early 2000s — but Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are up for the challenge. The three actresses have been cast in the new Charlie’sAngels reboot, which Elizabeth Banks is directing.
“Charlie’s Angels, for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ’70s,” Banks, who will also appear in the film as Bosley, told Variety. “This film honors the legacy of Charles Townsend [AKA the Charlie in Charlie’s Angels] and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels. I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi, and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world.”
Stewart, of course, is already a household name, thanks in part to her role as Bella in Twilight. More recently, she starred in Personal Shopper as a woman determined to make contact with her late twin brother. She’ll also appear in Lizzie, an upcoming thriller based on the 1892 murders of the Borden family.
Scott, meanwhile, is set to break out as Princess Jasmine in Disney’s live-action Aladdin. You may already recognize her as the Pink Ranger from 2017’s Power Rangers, a film that saw Banks as the villain Rita Repulsa.
Balinska (below, left) is best known for her work on the British series Midsomer Murders.
The new Charlie’s Angels reboot is scheduled to hit theaters on September 27, 2019.
