This FrankenPie May Be the Craziest, Most American Dessert Ever
Lately there are a lot of reasons to be proud to be an American. We legalized same-sex marriage, our President was funny on a podcast and Taylor Swift continues to be a national treasure. It only makes sense that in light of all those things we kick our patriotism up a notch for this fourth of July. Sure, berry cakes are nice and decorations are festive, but we need more! A country as grand as ours cannot be truly celebrated with a few meager brats and a bomb pop. Nay, we need something bigger and badder.
We need the Cherbluble.
No that’s not the Cher/Michael Buble mashup you’ve been longing for (soon, my pretties, soon); it’s the name of an epic cake/pie collaboration that’s making dessert history.
The Cherbluble is the brainchild of Charles Phoenix, the creator of the Thanksgiving-time Cherpumple. This 4th of July creation consists of a blueberry pie, an apple pie, and a cherry pie baked into a monstrous three-layer cake covered with flags, sparklers and a healthy dusting of Pop Rocks. Phoenix makes crafting this behemoth look easy, and if you can get past the vaguely sexual way he keeps saying “stuff a pie in a cake,” this video also serves as a helpful tutorial so you can make it yourself.
This is basically the cake equivalent of the lovechild of a bald eagle and the statue of liberty conceived on Plymouth Rock in terms of in-your-face American Spirit. Bring this cake to your 4th of July BBQ and politely inform the guests that if they don’t eat it, they are likely a communist.
