Chip and Joanna Gaines Hint at Their Plans for a Baby Name
Chip and Joanna Gaines have their hands full even without new episodes of Fixer Upper. Joanna just released her Magnolia cookbook, they opened their restaurant in February, and they’re getting ready to welcome their fifth child into the world — which means picking out a name for the little one.
The HGTV stars have four kids: 12-year-old Drake, 11-year-old Ella, nine-year-old Duke, and seven-year-old Emmie Kay. Based on precedent, you might assume that they’re planning on a “D” name for their future son. But Joanna says that’s not necessarily the case.
“I want a C name and [Chip] wants a D name,” she told Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin during Tuesday’s episode of Today. “I say he got the boy, so I get to pick the name.”
So why does Joanna want a name that starts with “C”? “She wants to change the pace,” Chip explained.
And this might be the last time she gets her way. Since another boy will be joining the family, the Gaines ladies will be outnumbered, four to three. “This is really upsetting the balance of power,” Chip joked. “So the boys might be able to outvote from here until kingdom come.”
Thankfully, Joanna is pretty sure her older kids will be less focused on outvoting her and more concerned with helping to take care of the newest addition. “There’s going to be quite the [age] gap,” she said. “I’m going to have a lot of little helpers. I’m so excited.”
