Bagels and Bread + Designer Bags = This Delicious Art Exhibit
Bagels, bread, waffles and pancakes. That’s just a short list of our favorite breakfast foods (we could go on forever). While it’s convenient to take the carby cuisine to go when rushing out the door for your morning commute, it would be even better to rock our fave starches as fashion accessories. Wait, stay with us here — you’ll agree when you see the new and ah-mazing type of food art artist Chloe Wise is cooking up.
Canadian-born + New York-based artist Chloe combined Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Moschino and Coach bag pieces with various forms of bread to highlight the guilty pleasures of life — fatty food and high fashion — through art. By remixing these designer bags with bakery standbys, the artist showcases how we get a little excessive when it comes to eating or handling life’s finer things. Does the artist’s statement totally ring true if we’re seriously scoping out that Ain’t No Challah Back(pack) Girl for ourselves? If so, guilty as charged.
These carb-heavy creations are highlighted in Chloe’s gallery show “Pissing, Shmoozing and Looking Away,” open until May 2 at Montreal’s Division Gallery, and which also highlights the connection between sex and with these food and commercial indulgence pieces. These are definitely a different kind of fetish props you won’t find in Fifty Shades of Grey.
The pieces of art are constructed with oil paint, urethane, leather and other hardware — AKA the designer bag materials. So, don’t go trying to take a bite out of a Pancake No. 5, PBJLV or a Belgian Moschino Waffle. Unless you’re looking for stares and a cracked tooth, of course ;)
If these bread bags ever went from art to retail, would you buy one? Let us know in the comments.
