How to Make a Chocolate Toolbox for Father’s Day
This Father’s Day, instead of giving your dad tools or a box of chocolate, combine the two and gift him something he’s never gotten for dad day — a chocolate toolbox! You heard that right. We’re talking chocolate tools in dad-approved flavors. He’ll be thrilled when he opens up his new carrying case to see that he gets to EAT the tools inside. And when he takes a bite, he’ll be pleasantly surprised that his chocolates taste like BBQ, bacon and chiles. Follow along for the recipes below!
Materials + Ingredients:
– toolbox
– tool molds (we ordered ours from Amazon)
– Ghirardelli Chocolate Melt Wafers
– liquid smoke, hickory flavor
– chili salt seasoning
– strawberries
– cooked bacon
Instructions:
1. Melt your chocolate and add extra ingredients.
2. Pour your chocolate mixture into your molds. Bang the molds on a tabletop to release any air bubbles.
3. Allow the chocolate to harden in or out of the refrigerator.
4. Remove the chocolates from the mold and store them in your toolbox.
This salty, meaty and sweet combination is an incredible addition to chocolate. Sounds weird, but it’s delicious!
Melt your chocolate in the microwave or a double boiler. Chop a strawberry into small pieces. Cook a piece of bacon on the stovetop, making sure it’s nice and crispy. Break it up into bits. Add the strawberries and bacon to the chocolate and stir to combine. Spoon the chocolate into your mold and bang the mold on the table to remove the air bubbles.
Strawberry + Bacon Chocolate
Imagine the smell of a BBQ combined with the flavor of chocolate and you’ve got our hickory-flavored chocolate bar. Your dad is going to LOVE this treat.
Melt your chocolate wafers and then add a drop of hickory-flavored liquid smoke. Stir to combine and then taste it to see if you need to add more smoke.
Hickory Chocolate
Does your dad like a good kick? This one’s for him. Salted chocolate is amazing on its own. Add chili to the mix and your taste buds will go wild.
Sprinkle some chili salt into your melted chocolate and take a flavor bite. Add more heat if necessary. Don’t have chili salt seasoning? Combine chili pepper or cayenne pepper with salt instead. We suggest adding a touch of salt to the outside of the chocolate as well.

Once you’ve filled all of your molds, let the chocolate harden. We put ours in the fridge for about two hours.
Carefully remove the hardened tools from the mold and clean up the edges by breaking off the excess bits.
Line your toolbox with tissue or parchment paper and set your tools inside. Dad is going to be so surprised when he opens this box!
Some say this is the best gift out there. We have to agree :)
Pop a card on your box and head to dad’s place.
