Chriselle Lim on the Red Bag That People Always Ask Her About
Fall is especially fabulous because it gives us a solid reason to shop. And whether it’s searching for the perfect cooler weather statement piece or an entire wardrobe reboot — we’re here for it. But what items can we actually continue rocking year-round? We’ve assessed that white jeans can stay, embroidered shoes feel fitting for fall, and florals are always fashionably fresh. To dive deeper into trends, evergreen fashion, and that one standout item, we talked to Chriselle Lim, stylist, blogger, and street style queen.
Brit + Co: What fall lewks are you living for?
Chriselle Lim: Fall to me is like a brand-new start of the year because you get to refresh your whole wardrobe, and it’s just the perfect excuse to buy new pieces. I always look forward to wearing oversized trench coats, slightly more masculine blazers, [and] especially bringing back the boots — I’m such a boots girl.
B+C: Who are your go-to designers right now?
CL: There are so many cool little brands that I’m discovering via Instagram. I really love Alessandra Rich, who has been around for a while, but I surprisingly just discovered some of her pieces. It’s just like fun and funky but so feminine. Maggie Marilyn is a New York designer that’s newer. She has really cool sporty but still feminine pieces and her stuff has been getting better and better.
B+C: What’s one item from your closet that people are *always* swooning over?
CL: My Gucci Linea Cestino Mini Web Straw Shoulder Bag ($1,980) is the perfect size and pop of color, and I also love the texture of it. It can be worn as a shoulder bag, crossbody, handbag, or as a clutch.
B+C: How often do you rock it and with what?
CL: I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve worn it! The beautiful thing about this bag is that it’s so versatile. I’ve been able to wear it with something as classic and simple as jeans and a tee to something a bit more dressed up.
B+C: What’s the secret to refining our personal style?
CL: For me, fashion is all about how you want to feel in the moment. When I first started blogging eight years ago it was all about feeling pretty and girly and feminine because back then I was single and ready to mingle I wanted to look flirty and cute. Now I want to feel powerful and empowered, and just strong. I gravitate naturally towards strong [and] structured, and chic and polished pieces. People change all the time, especially with the different seasons and trends [and] I think it’s more about how you want to feel at the time.
