Christian Siriano Reveals the Inspiration Behind Leslie Jones’ Emmys 2017 Dress
Since designer Christian Siriano came to her rescue after Leslie Jones revealed that designers refused to dress her for last year’s Ghostbusters premiere, Jones has rocketed up the best dressed lists. Now, Siriano revealed the inspiration behind the revealing dress he designed for Jones for the 2017 Emmys.
“It’s her first Emmy nomination, so it’s a big moment for her,” the Project Runway alum told Elle.com of the custom creation. “We’re making her super glamorous to show everybody that she’s stunning, which is exciting.”
Siriano described the final look as a “a sheer, black beaded [gown] — very covered up, but still super sexy. She wanted to show people that she really has an amazing body, which people don’t give her [credit for], so that’s what we’re giving her.”
The designer simply wanted Jones to have a fabulous time, especially after she was rudely snubbed in the fashion community last year. “Especially for Leslie, I was like listen, even if Leslie doesn’t win, she’s going to look so stunning,” he said. “I hope people just take it back ― you could never imagine that a year ago, people weren’t trying to send clothes to her, because she’s so great.”
Jones, of course, was nominated for supporting actress in a comedy series for Saturday Night Live, and ended up losing to her costar and pal Kate McKinnon, but she obviously had a blast at the awards show anyway, looking every inch the fun fashionista she is.
