‘Riverdale’ Star Cole Sprouse’s New Movie Sounds Just Like ‘The Fault in Our Stars’
As the CW’s Riverdale approaches the end of its second season, there’s some good news for fans who can’t get enough of the show’s star Cole Sprouse (AKA Jughead): He’s in talks to star in a new movie, and it sounds like it could be a major tearjerker.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sprouse is in the negotiating stages for Five Feet Apart, a romantic drama from CBS Films. The movie is about two young people — Sprouse being one of them — who meet and fall in love as they’re both living with illnesses. We’re getting full Fault in Our Stars vibes from the sounds of this, and yeah, we’re already crying at the thought of it.
Jane the Virgin star Justin Baldoni will direct the movie, and writing partners Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis are behind the screenplay.
Five Feet Apart will mark Sprouse’s first time on the big screen as an adult. He was last in a theatrical release in 1999, when he appeared opposite Adam Sandler in Big Daddy. Production is reportedly due to start in the spring.
Sprouse’s star has risen meteorically since Riverdale‘s debut, as has interest in his personal life. There are rumors that he’s dating his on-screen love interest Lili Reinhart — the other half of the beloved Bughead couple — IRL as well, but both actors refuse to comment on their status.
