These City Landmark Halloween Costumes Are As Glamorous As They Are Creative

There are many reasons to love Halloween, like pumpkin carving and spooky treats, but my favorite Halloween activity is making costumes. Being a maker, I sometimes love the actual DIYing of the costume more than wearing it, and recently, I made a group of unique Halloween Costumes that I am *so* excited about: City Landmarks!!
Dressing up as a city landmark for Halloween might seam a little random (it is) but trust me, these outfits was super cute! My love for the 1950s runs deep and I decided to transform my favorite city landmarks into glamorous cocktail dresses. Swipe through to see what I did!
Statue of Liberty: First up is Lady Liberty! For this classic lady, I bought a KOH KOH Long Gown
($35) and a pair of ElegantPark Pumps ($52).

I covered an old cookbook with teal felt for Lady Liberty’s book. For her torch, I rolled up a wide strip of cardboard to form a tube and secured the ends with glue. I glued teal felt over the tube and rolled another long strip of cardboard around the top to form the torch cup, and glued teal felt over that. Finally, I bunched some yellow and orange tissue paper together as “flames” and glued the paper to the top of the torch.
I made the crown by gluing teal felt triangles around a headband. And boom! Finished!
Being glamorous gets so tiring sometimes.
Golden Gate Bridge: Next is my hometown’s iconic landmark: The Golden Gate Bridge. I bought a red TINYHI Simple Swing T-Shirt Dress ($15) and a pair of Wild Diva Peep Toe Slingback High Heels ($20) from Amazon. I used sparkly black fabric paint to paint a tower of the Golden Gate Bridge down the middle of the dress.
To create the Bridge’s “strings,” I hand sewed pieces of stiff red ribbon on the sleeves and sewed a piece of ribbon on the side of the dress that laid perpendicular to the sleeve ribbons. I sewed the ends of the sleeve ribbons to the side ribbon.
I left my heart in San Francisco.

Isn't Designer, Torii, the cutest little bridge you ever did see? As for the girls' hair and makeup, our makeup artist, Eliza Veal, guzzied up each gal with 1950s hair and makeup. She curled and set everyone’s hair and applied makeup while the hair set. Eliza went with bold eyeliner and red lips to seal in the Old Hollywood glam look.
Sydney Opera House: To recreate the Sydney Opera House’s iconic architecture, I cut curved triangles out of cardboard and then covered each piece with white felt. Then, I arranged the triangles on a long strip of cardboard and glued them down. I glued wide stretchy gold sequin ribbon along the cardboard strip to tie around the waist.
Under the white buildings, I dressed Brand Partnership Planner Sydney (she's modeling this costume for obvious reasons) in a Whoinsho Halter Sleeveless Mermaid Bodycon Cocktail Dress ($55) from Amazon and a pair of gold heels.
As a final sparkly touch, I donned Sydney with a Halloween Costumes Diamond Brilliance Necklace ($8) and Diamond Bracelet ($5) from HalloweenCostumes.com. This site is full of awesome Halloween costume items as great prices, which are two things I love.

Eiffel Tower: I love Paris oh so much! For this Eiffel Tower costume, I bought a pink VeryAnn Fit and Flare Dress ($24), a pink NYFASHION101 French Style Beret
($8), and a pair of pink Susanny Round Two Buckle Mary Jane Heels ($32). I then painted a black Eiffel Tower on the front of the dress.
C’est la vie!

Big Ben: Lastly is Big Ben! I bought a Babe Society Mockneck Dress ($35) from Amazon and hand painted the clock and geometric building details. Getting all the details right definitely took some time, but it was worth it. Listening to a podcast or watching a show (I recommend Mad Men!) while you work helps you get in the groove.
For the Big Ben top headband, I cut a triangular shape out of cardboard and covered it with brown felt. Then I glued gold sequin ribbon around it and glued the piece to a side of a plain black headband.
