Newsflash: Creativity Can Actually Help You to Become More Resilient
Remember back when you were a little kid on the playground and you fell down when there was no around to pick you back up? Well, somehow you learned to get back up all on your own. In doing so, you discovered the valuable skill of resilience. Nowadays, getting back up when we fall can be a lot tougher than when we were kids. Good news! Being creative is a powerful tool to becoming more resilient. A recent Huffington Post article makes a strong case that the more creative we are in our daily lives, the more resilient we can be.
Brené Brown, a Ph.D who specializes in studying human connections, tell us that, “If you want to move knowledge from your head to your heart, it requires your hands. Creativity is the ultimate integration tool. And the best part is that it’s built in.” Simply put, creativity is in ALL of us. The more creative we are in our lives, the better off we’ll be. It’s the act of creating and making that helps us go from knowing something to actually living it.
The article tells us that reminding ourselves of the feeling we get when we step into a creative space will help us to feel more confident. It’s just the act of taking that risk that helps us to feel more aligned, calm and self-assured. Now THAT’S an idea we can get behind! So remember to take the time to embrace the little creative moments in your day. It could be as simple as singing in the shower, doodling on some scratch paper or even letting yourself daydream a bit. Who knows what else your creativity can help you achieve?
