Adding THIS to Your Rice Will Cut the Calories in Half
No. This is not a trick or April Fools’ prank — yet. (Don’t worry, that’s coming.) This is all completely true: Your next batch of rice can have half the calories shaved off of it with this little secret. Are you ready for it? It’s that sweet nectar sent to us from the heavens. It’s coconut oil.
All you need to do is add a teaspoon of coconut oil to your boiling water, pour in half a cup of rice and let it simmer for 20 to 40 minutes. When the rice is done cooking, put it in the fridge for 12 hours, and, magically, you have rice with 60% fewer calories!
So how does it work? We’re no food scientists, but the short version of the story goes a little something like this: This process turns rice’s digestible starch into indigestible starch and, in turn, cuts down the amount of glucose that enters into your system. If you don’t know about glucose, it’s the stuff that can lead to weight gain and obesity. Excuse us now while we go make invitations for a rice bowl brunch.
