Damn Daniel’s Vans Are Selling for $400,000
In case you’ve been hiding in a cave for the past week, allow us to introduce you to the Internet’s favorite new teenager: Daniel Lara. The 14-year-old California schoolboy rose to viral fame after his friend Josh Holz posted a video on Twitter showing off Daniel’s super fresh outfits. The standout piece of attire? His white vans.
With the video receiving over 418,000 likes and the boys paying a recent visit to Ellen, you could say that Daniel’s shoes are perhaps the most coveted footwear of the moment – and it seems people are prepared to pay big bucks to get their hands on them. Over on eBay, there are currently more than 1,000 listings for “Damn Daniel White Vans.” The top listing is currently selling for over $400,000 and has 84 bids. We repeat: a USED pair of Vans is selling for 8,888% the price of a brand new pair. And the craziest part? They’re not even Daniel’s!
When Ellen told Daniel about how much the Vans were selling for online he responded, “That’s a little expensive, right?” Uh, correct. He goes on to say, “They’re not mine. They’re not even slip-ons, actually.”
To be honest, we’re not really sure what the right reaction to this is. Should we be impressed that someone with a pair of old shoes figured out how to use them to make enough to pay for a house in cash? Should we be sad for the person who bid on them and is now realizing their entire life savings was spent on a hoax? Should we just sit back and accept that the Internet is a weird, weird place? We’re going to go with that last option if that’s alright with all of you.
