This 10-Year-Old Boy Just Stole the Show at Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week is in full swing and along with the new fashion trends and hot beauty looks, we’ve spotted more than a few breakout stars on the runway. We’ve seen Cheetos emerge as the newest fashion accessory, a model walk the runway one day before giving birth, and countless celebs show their faces in the front rows. The excitement doesn’t end there, though. Because one unexpected mini model just stole the show with his unique look.
Desmond Napoles, AKA Desmond is Amazing, strutted down the runway of Gypsy Sport’s Fall 2018 show in an oversized black coat with ruffles at the collar, black pants, and high heeled boots. The pint-sized strutter rocked black and white polka dotted nails capped off with silver and white tipped strands. The most surprising part of this epic walk had nothing to do with is appearance, however. It was his age — Napoles is only 10 years old.

Not only is he one of the youngest models to show his stuff on the catwalk in NYFW, but he’s also an LGBTQ activist and a “drag kid” who practices what he calls “kinderdrag,” according to his Instagram posts. He’s the youngest member of “the original iconic pioneering voguing ballroom house, the House of UltraOmni” and is inspired by the likes of RuPaul, Marsha P. Johnson, the Club Kids and Blitz Kids, artists Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, designers John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, and Commes Des Garçons, Nelson Sullivan videos, altdrag, and DIY drag.

According to his website, Napoles began showing interest in drag when he was in preschool, using anything he could get his hands on to create outfits and wigs while walking up and down the hallways in his mom’s heels. After he got an Elsa costume for Halloween, his love for dresses and exploring his own style (which he calls “androgynously” and “avant drag”) grew, as did his success. His first drag appearance was in RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5 winner Jinkx Monsoon’s music video for the song, “The Bacon Shake,” which ignited in him a love for entertaining. Napoles also founded the very first drag house for kids, Haus of Amazing, which is set to open in March. His motto is “be yourself, always.” That’s something we can definitely get behind.
