These Shoes Prove That Glass Slippers Aren’t Just for Disney Princesses
Attention all Disney lovers: There’s officially no need to wait around for Prince Charming, because it’s time to buy your own glass slippers. Well, sort of. In celebration of his 25 years in the couture biz, Balmain’s head shoe designer Diego Dolcini partnered with luxury glassmaker Baccarat to make IRL fairytale footwear magic, and we just can’t get enough. The crystal pumps are part of a limited-edition capsule collection (dubbed Crystal Couture) that is currently for sale, featuring 15 styles made with *actual* glass heels.
After accepting the challenge by Baccarat’s CEO to use the company’s crystal in a wearable shoe, Dolcini created heel designs inspired by the glassmaker’s signature chandelier, crystal ball, and geometric stem shapes. The designer used Baccarat’s signature crystal shades of ruby, amber, amethyst, and black throughout the collection for a result that is a whimsical yet sophisticated dream come true. The steel pin-encased heels that are fit for a princess are Dolcini’s tribute to famous French women. Styles include the Marion (Cottilard), the Brigitte (Bardot), and the Ines (de la Fressange), among others. Unfortunately, the collaboration/dream-come-true consists of mainly couture pieces that are only available in a very limited run (price available upon request), but luckily for us, Dolcini has plans to create a more affordable plexiglass version for all the glass slipper-obsessed Cinderellas out there. Stay tuned, beauties.
