Disney’s California Adventure Paradise Pier Is Getting a Pixar Makeover and We’ve Got ALL the Deets
Some pretty amazing announcements have been released about the future of our beloved Disney Parks. In addition to the fact that guests can bring their pooches to Disney World hotels, there’s massive transformations in store for Disney’s California Adventure’s Paradise Pier. We’ve got all the deets about the space that’s turning into — wait for it — Pixar Pier, and TBH, we couldn’t be more excited.
Disney first revealed their plans to revamp California Adventure’s pier at the D23 Expo back in July, but gave little away about the revamp of its park-goer’s favorite waterside getaways. Luckily, Disney Parks Blog has broken down the specifics, filling us in on its new Pixar-themed attractions, restaurants, and memory-making fun that will be introduced in the summer of 2018.
The new pier will be made up of four distinct neighborhoods inspired by popular Pixar films. The first, all about The Incredibles (a franchise focusing on a family of fab superheroes), will see the California Screamin’ rollercoaster morph into the Incredicoaster with a mid-century-modern-style loading area, new character moments, and superhero-like ride updates.
The second neighborhood, inspired by Inside Out (the story of the conflicting emotions inside of one little girl’s brain), will be found on the western side of the Pier’s boardwalk. Little else is known, as this particular feature is scheduled to open at a later date.
Neighborhood number three will bring you straight into Toy Story and is centered on the wildly popular Toy Story Mania!, a ride which takes you along on a 4D “shootin’ game” starring your favorite characters from the film, where players blast moving targets along the way. Yee-haw!
The fourth neighborhood brings everything together by celebrating multiple Pixar movies in one place, with nods to your favorite film characters everywhere you look.
One thing that will remain the same, however, is Mickey’s iconic smiling face, overlooking all of the fun from the side of Mickey’s Fun Wheel. Though the gondolas will be getting a Pixar makeover, Mickey will remained untouched (phew!).
As for other staples, such as Ariel’s Grotto restaurant and the Cove Bar, they’ll no longer be a part of your world, as they’re set to be swapped out for a new lounge and grill that will offer views of Paradise Bay and Pixar Pier. We’ll also see new favorites, such as Paradise Gardens, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumpin’ Jellyfish, Goofy’s Sky School, Golden Zephyr, and The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, added in.
Many of the attractions undergoing changes will close January 8, 2018 to accommodate the work that needs to be done. That means if you’ve been planning a trip to enjoy everything that California Adventure’s Paradise Pier has to offer, you better get moving before it’s too late!
It should be worth the wait, however, with the new pier’s launch coinciding with a snazzy celebration deemed “Pixar Fest” on April 13, 2018, with “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” fireworks, the return of Pixar Play Parade and the “Paint the Night” parade, and more.
We can’t wait to check it out!
