Disney’s New Live-Action ‘Dumbo’ Trailer Is a Tearjerker
It’s been a few months since Disney released the first sneak peek at its upcoming live-action Dumbo remake, and now we’re getting a better look at the rest of the circus surrounding the star elephant.
In the first official full-length trailer, it’s discovered that Dumbo, the newborn elephant who was mocked for his oversized ears, can actually fly. Dumbo has been separated from his mother, and is in the care of Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children, Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins). Soon, his talents are recognized by V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who sets out to make Dumbo a starring act in his massive new circus show, Dreamland.
“You have something very rare,” Vandevere says to the baby elephant. “You have wonder. You have mystique. You have magic.” He can then be heard telling circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito), “Together, we can soar on that elephant’s wings.”
Before long, Holt and his children realize Vandevere’s plans to exploit young Dumbo, and while they encourage their pachyderm friend to embrace his rare talents, they also move into protection mode while attempting to reunite him with his mother.
Many of the story lines — and the tear-jerking moments — from the original 1941 animated film seem to be in tact in the new Tim Burton-directed live-action movie, although new characters and plot points can also be expected. Dumbo hits theaters on March 29, 2019.
