Head to Sesame Street in This Mommy and Me Halloween Costume

When it comes to making Halloween costumes, we here at B+C do not mess around. And this mom and toddler costume is no exception. Because what parent doesn’t LOVE dressing as Sesame Street’s famous bird with an adorable Elmo kid in tow?! Scroll on to find out how to DIY your own muppety, feather-filled family costumes.

DIY Big Bird and Elmo Sesame Street Halloween Costumes

We really went ALL-IN on Big Bird’s costume, so it felt the best *and* the most realistic to just buy the Elmo costume for the mini. Real talk: Who has time to make BOTH costumes? :) It’s okay because your mini will lose their minds when they see the life-like Elmo ensemble in person!

Materials and Tools:

We found a short yellow dress from Goodwill, and then hot glued yellow boas all around it. For the headpiece, we glued the yellow feather clusters (which are clusters of feathers that are glued onto a solid structure like cardboard, so if you can’t find them to buy, you can make it yourself) back to back, leaving the bottoms open so they could be glued to the headband to make the feathers stand straight up. We added a few white feathers just like Big Bird has.

To make the face, we copied Big Bird’s beak and eyes onto the coordinating foam pieces and then cut them out and glued them to the yellow headband. Hot glue a couple pieces of purple felt around the tights to create the ribs that Big Bird has on his legs. Throw on your gloves and a pair of yellow shoes and you are good to go.
