Adorn Your Mantle With This DIY Copper Star of David Hanukkah Wreath
The festival of lights is quickly approaching, so we decided to create modern wall decor out of an old favorite. We created a Star of David wreath made from copper pipes and fake greenery. This Hanukkah DIY is a breeze to make and should take no longer than one hour. And if you’re looking for more projects, we’ve got 18 easy Hanukkah DIY ideas to amp up your home with holiday decorations.
Materials + Tools:
Instructions:
1. Measure five-inch marks on your copper pipe and then cut using the pipe cutter. Cut 18 five-inch pieces.
2. String three five-inch pieces onto wire and connect the ends together to create a triangle.
3. Lay the triangles into a Star of David pattern and then string wire through the two bigger triangles that are formed. Tie ends together to secure all pieces into one object.
4. Use hot glue to attach leaves and berries to the copper pipe.
Home Depot wasn’t too enthused about cutting me 18 five-inch pieces from two long 1/2-inch pipes, and instead told me about a pipe cutter. I was just dreading using it and wishing that their pipe-cutting Home Depot machine could just come home with me. To my surprise, it was actually so easy! Once you measure out your five-inch piece, open the mouth of the pipe cutter to fit around your pipe. Tighten the top to squeeze the pipe and then spin the cutter around until the pipe breaks. It took me about 30 minutes to cut all 18 pieces and I did get a blister. But honestly, it wasn’t hard labor, just tedious.
Lay out your pieces into the Star of David shape. This is actually two large triangles that have three copper pieces per side.
String three copper pipes onto copper wire and twist together to create a small triangle. Place these triangles together to create the larger star and then thread more wire through the two larger triangles that are formed.
Twist all copper wires together to secure all pieces in place. Tuck into the copper pipe or create a wire wrap.
Use hot glue to attach greenery to the copper pipes. This is the perfect opportunity to hide the wire wrapping at the intersection of pipes.
I’m obsessed with the quality that comes with using copper pipes. It’s hard to believe it’s DIY!
Adorn your wall with your copper Star of David to impress all of your guests this holiday season.
